Job Description
Rail Operations Manager
Lead a fast-growing grain inspection team that keeps America’s fields flowing. If you love agriculture, thrive in the elements, and bring grit, resourcefulness, and a get-it-done mindset, this is the role to own. You’ll run day-to-day rail inspection operations, recruit and develop field talent, back up the crew in the field, and help grow the business with the commercial team—safely, accurately, and profitably.

What You Will Do
- Assign and dispatch field inspectors daily to meet customer demand.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and train field inspectors; coach and develop field talent.
- Serve as on-call team backup and perform hands-on grading and sampling for corn, soybeans, and wheat.
- Lead quality audits, investigate discrepancies, and enforce sampling and reporting standards.
- Manage travel, equipment, supplies, and staffing; optimize routes and staffing to meet targets.
- Provide input to operating budgets, control travel, and equipment costs.
- Model and enforce a safety-first culture; conduct safety audits and incident investigations.
- Collaborate with the commercial team to identify new targets and markets, support go-to-market efforts, and grow inspection volumes.

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years operations or grain inspection experience, with 3+ years supervising field teams.
- Demonstrable ability to grade corn, soybeans, and wheat.
- Experience recruiting, training, and retaining field-based staff.
- Valid driver’s license and frequent travel availability.
- Must pass motor vehicle record review and have two years of verifiable driving experience.
- Clean driving record within the last 3 years; motor vehicle check required.
- Willingness to submit to employment, reference, and safety screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Agribusiness, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Experience managing operational budgets and implementing cost controls.
Working Conditions and Compensation
- Field-heavy role with frequent travel to rail yards and elevators; exposure to outdoor industrial environments.
- Variable hours during peak shipping periods.
