Responsibilities:
As a Kitchen Manager at Gelson’s, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of Gelson’s kitchen by directing our dedicated team to provide the highest standards of service to our valued customers. The Kitchen Manager must be knowledgeable in food service operations, the use of kitchen equipment and cutting techniques and must be able to use knives precisely with moderate speed.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and support the kitchen staff, ensuring a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Ensure all operations in the kitchen are running efficiently and that products consistently meet the company’s quality standards and customer expectations.
- Monitoring all functions in the kitchen and assisting in food preparation and production as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service, and resourceful assistance and respond appropriately in all customer interactions.
- Collaborate with your team to implement effective merchandising strategies, including product displays, promotions, and signage to maximize product movement.
- Write food orders based upon expected sales and current inventory, and control overall department shrink by ensuring proper product preparation, ordering, production, and display.
- Assist in monitoring food quality and ensure recipes are accurately followed using quality, fresh ingredients.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations including HAACP and OSHA standards.
- Embrace new challenges and be a flexible team player, taking on responsibilities as needed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a grocery retail setting, with at least 3 years in a kitchen operations role.
- Training in culinary courses or prior culinary experience in a retail environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
- Reaching above and at shoulder level frequently
- Standing up to 8 hours per day
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. frequently
- Lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. occasionally
- Working near hazardous machinery (Slicer, mixer, knives)
- Walking on uneven ground (Floor mats)
- Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Oven, stove)
- Exposure to noise (Mixers, food processor)
- Exposure to extremes in temperature (Deli coolers, freezer, ovens)
