Overview
As an Engineering Technician, you will work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to improve equipment functionality, support operator training, and lead continuous improvement efforts on the production floor. This position is ideal for candidates with a background in mechatronics, automation, or mechanical/electrical systems who are eager to make a hands-on impact in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct technical support to extrusion lines on assigned shift.
- Partner with production supervisors and operators to stabilize processes and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Assist with equipment performance improvements, reliability initiatives, and root cause problem-solving.
- Support the development of Standard Work, QPPs, and training materials for operators.
- Collaborate with engineers to introduce new methods, technology, or process improvements.
- Maintain documentation, logs, and technical records to ensure accurate communication across shifts.
- Serve as a key resource for technical skill-building among shift operators.
- Collaborate and offer technical engineering support for equipment upgrades/installs/troubleshooting to improve the effectiveness and reliability of all process equipment
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in engineering technology, Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with technical troubleshooting in a production or lab environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with exposure to automation, robotics, or industrial controls preferred.
- Proficiency with technical documentation, problem-solving tools, and data analysis.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with ability to support cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to travel to other Rain Bird locations for training, trials, and benchmarking.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a technician-level role supporting production or engineering operations.
- Proven ability to systematically troubleshoot processing and equipment performance issues, especially in high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Experience with plastics extrusion, automated machinery, or industrial manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and/or programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, or PLCs for diagnostics and process optimization.
- Demonstrated success in supporting operator training, developing technical documentation, and enhancing shift-level skill-building initiatives.
