Job Overview
The Vice President of Operations is accountable for achieving the financial objectives and customer satisfaction of the Tactical Systems business as it relates to production operations. This key position is part of the Tactical Systems business unit senior leadership team and reports directly to the business unit Senior Vice President. The VP of Operations will report on key performance indicators (KPIs), drive operational excellence within the functional departments and establish a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. To achieve these objectives, the VP of Operations will lead the following functions and direct reports as well as oversee the employees reporting to each direct report: Manufacturing, Production Control, Supply Chain, Logistics, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing
Engineering Support.

Essential Functions
• Oversee the Production Control and shall have accountability for the cross-functional Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process, including the timely issuance of production
work orders, knowing the status of all units in production and the variance, and for each variance to plan, shall develop and implement mitigation plans to recover schedule through the Production
Control Manager.
• Oversee the Manufacturing team and shall have accountability for the hiring, training, supervision, and promotion of production technicians employed to execute work orders to manufacture units in
accordance with standard work instructions, at the specified rate, specified quality, and at labor cost in keeping with budget parameters. This shall include responsibility for labor planning and scheduling, as well as time and attendance reporting.
• Oversee the Supply Chain team accountability for the issuance of purchase order requirements for execution by buyers and by corporate procurement team. This shall include the deep understanding of suppliers, qualification of suppliers, supplier management, and supplier quality, and vendor relations issues, including contracting with vendors (suppliers) in coordination with corporate procurement and contracting teams.
• Oversee the Logistics team and shall have accountability for shipping, receiving, material handling, inventory management, accuracy and control, logistics operations and facilities management issues in accordance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety standard and procedures.                                                                                                                                                                             • Oversee the functional department for quality and shall have accountability for company's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure quality issues are identified, diagnosed, and corrective actions are implemented to reduce and eliminate escapes caused by both internal issues and supplier issues.
• Oversee the functional department for manufacturing engineers.
• Responsible for leading efficient and effective cross-functional weekly meetings, in close coordination with relevant managers and their support staff, gathering performance updates for the relevant managers, and tracking and helping on follow-ups resulting from these management processes.
• Identify performance, quality, and cost issues and opportunities, personnel issues and opportunities, and other topics of importance to the overall health of Tactical Systems and shall alert the SVP of Tactical Systems. This will generally involve the identification of variances in daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, the rigorous pursuit of root-cause problem solving to identify and resolve the true ca use(s), and the implementation of efficient and effective corrective actions that mitigate or prevent recurrence of issues (even when the corrective action may require personnel changes that are difficult for all parties involved).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies 
• Demonstrated experience overseeing cross-functional SIOP (sales, inventory & operations planning), engineering resource planning & scheduling, new product development, new production introduction, and quality management systems, internal audits, and corrective actions.
• Demonstrated involvement in scaling and executing operations and/or engineering functions in support of government / military contracts for programs of record, other defense acquisitions and
procurement contracts, and/or foreign military sales contracts.
• Strong time management skills and ability to problem-solve

  • Education / Certifications
  • • Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or another "quantitative" field is required.
  • • Postgraduate degree in operations management or M.B.A. preferred but not required.

Experience
• 15 - 20 years of career experience in the aerospace & defense manufacturing industry with the most recent in a senior executive position.
• Experience leading an operations organization with a minimum of 200 employees.
• Recent experience with the production of unmanned systems desirable.
• Desired experience in aviation related prototype development and manufacturing industry
• Experience operating in an ISO9001/AS9100 (or equivalent) certified manufacturing facility
