Purpose

The Associate Director of IT Operations for University Housing and Dining (UHD) provides strategic and operational leadership across various high volume IT functions, including help desk support, server and application administration, and security systems. Ensures the delivery of reliable, secure, and user focused technology supporting various units and operations across UHD, including 24/7 residence halls and dining units. Leads a team of IT professionals, fosters innovation, and collaborates with stakeholders to align IT services with business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the IT Help Desk for University Housing and Dining (UHD). Includes Desktop Support for UHD employees, including but not limited to: software installations, troubleshooting issues, authorizations, etc. Includes working with and managing UHD devices, which includes desktops, peripherals, mobile devices, phones, and other assorted hardware.  Ensure support requests are properly tracked and documented via UHD Ticketing system. Ensure high standards of security across all support requests. Collaborate with UHD stakeholders to understand strategy, end-user and department needs, then develop and drive a services/support strategy.to meet those needs. Provide innovation and leadership in the selection, implementation and use of tools and best practices.
  • Oversee the Server and Applications Administration team for UHD. Oversee the UHD physical and virtual servers and the applications running on them. Lead the Applications Administration team, which includes but is not limited to, Housing Software, Point of Sale Software, Virtual Desktop Software, and Food Management Software. Ensure smooth operations while adhering to all UT security standards. Anticipate internal client needs, propose alternative business solutions, and continually seek opportunities to increase internal client satisfaction and strengthen relationships. Collaborate with the team to identify training resources for team members and customers.
  • Manage and lead a team of full time IT Professionals that focus on technical support and systems administrations.  This includes, but is not limited to IT Managers, System Administrators and various technical support roles.   Hire, train,  and evaluate staff performance.  Provide leadership that encourages a user-focused mindset, promotes approachability and professionalism, and drives the development of innovative solutions. Maintain high standards of communication with staff and customers. Display excellent organizational skills, and an ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent assignments. Perform other managerial/administrative duties as required.  
  • Collaborate with IT Director to support the strategic planning and execution of department goals, ensuring alignment with department priorities and technological advancements.  Serve as the backup to the IT Director, assuming leadership responsibilities in their absence. This includes but is not limited to providing strategic direction to overall IT team, completing administrative tasks (authorizations, systems administration, etc.), and representing the department in meetings. Maintain comprehensive understanding of the UHD IT portfolio to ensure continuity of operations and informed decision making. Serve as a strategic and collaborative partner to the IT Director contributing to long-term departmental vision and planning.  
  • Serve as administrator to both the UHD Door Access Control System and Video Management System. Serve as a camera control operator. Work closely with UHD Security Services Team to ensure stability and reliability of Door Access and Video Security Systems.
  • Participate in all relevant UHD and UHD Business Services meetings, events, classes and training. Promote Business Services priorities and strategic objectives.  Occasional after hours and on call duties. Ensure UHD 24-hour operations have accurate coverage. Drive UT vehicle as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’S Degree.

  • Five years of IT experience.
  • Three years in a leadership or management role directly leading IT professionals.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or higher.
  • Ten or more years of IT experience.
  • Five or more years in a leadership or management role directly leading IT professionals.
  • Previous experience managing and/or overseeing an IT Help Desk.
  • Experience with physical and virtual servers and  administering  applications on those servers.
  • Experience providing IT support for any of the following:  FoodPro food management systems, StarRez housing software, CSGold / Micros Point of Sale software.
  • Experience administrating Citrix Virtual Desktop software.
  • Professional work experience within higher education/University setting.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$120,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM. Work days, hours and area may vary based upon the needs of unit and Housing and Dining (UHD).
