Organizational Overview:
Consumer bank data team is part of a larger analytics and technology organization that supports the bank's retail products related data.
Core functions of the data team
- Data Governance: Establishing and enforcing policies for how customer data is collected, stored, and used to ensure accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Reporting and Business Intelligence: Creating dashboards and reports that provide business leaders with insights on performance, customer behavior, and market conditions.
- Infrastructure: Working with enterprise engineering teams to manage the data warehouse, data lakes, and other analytical infrastructure. comprises of skills in AbInitio, data analytics, Spark and other data warehousing and data lake tools. Team will be also operate in public cloud environment.
- Ad-hoc Analysis: Responding to specific requests from business partners for "what-if" scenarios or deep-dive analysis.
Role Summary/Purpose:
AVP Consumer Bank Principal Data Engineer to lead the development of consumer-centric low latency analytic environment leveraging Data technologies and transform the legacy systems. This role is an exciting, fast-paced, constantly changing, and challenging work environment, and will play an important role in resolving and influencing high-level decisions across Synchrony.
Key Responsibilities:
- Being able to work with architects, tech leads and engineers on technical issues
- Design, develop and lead financial services data applications in highly agile and fast-moving teams.
- Lead a financial services data engineering team and roll up the sleeves to individually contribute when required.
- Implement ETL/ELT on a big data platform (Cloudera Hadoop cluster) / Container using Ab Initio, Spark, Hive, Kafka, RDBMS(Oracle, MySQL, Snowflake), NoSQL databases(Cassandra), and public cloud solutions.
- Responsible for design, development, testing oversight and production implementation.
- Experience with batch and real-time data pipelines in a DevOps environment using Ab Initio and Spark.
- Work closely with Product owners, Product Managers, Program manager, scrum masters in a Scaled Agile framework.
- Partner with architects to efficiently design data applications with scalability, resiliency and speed.
- Provided technical oversight, managed work products and acted as a technical coach to a global team of developers
- Drive technical development and application standards across enterprise data warehouse and Data lake.
- Accomplish results by communicating expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Collaborate across cross-functional teams to improve and deliver on business objectives and priorities.
- Apply technical knowledge, industry experience, expertise, and insights to contribute to the development & execution of Engineering capabilities.
- Stays up-to-date on latest trends in data engineering, recommends best practices, develops innovative frameworks to avoid redundancy by promoting automation.
- Mentor and coach the team to promote Synchrony values and culture.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor's degree preferred with a concentration of study in Computer Science, Engineering or related field and 4 to 5 years of work experience with ELT/ETL/Data warehousing, large scale Data environments e.g., Cloudera and public cloud (AWS preferred) using Ab Initio, Spark, Hive, Kafka, RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL, Snowflake)
- In lieu of a degree, a certification in related field and 8 to 9 years of work experience with above mentioned exposure to large scale data environments for Consumer Bank.
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
- Prior experience as a Data Engineering Technical Lead leading team in Scaled Agile framework.
- Strong experience and deep understanding of ETL, data warehousing, data lakes and analytics concepts.
- Outstanding analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience in banking or financial services; Fiserv banking platform familiarity, FDIC 370 understanding a plus.
- Experience owning multiple mission critical applications on data platform.
- Experience with batch and real-time data pipelines in a DevOps environment.
- Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment with globally located Agile teams working in different shifts.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships at all levels across IT and Business Stakeholders.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adept and presenting complex topics, influencing, and executing with timely /actionable follow-through.
- Experience in designing ETL pipelines to enable automated data load into AWS S3 & Redshift.
- Experience dealing with sensitive data in a highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated implementation of complex and innovative solutions.
- Nice to have AWS Solution Architect/Data Engineer certification.
- Be the captain of the team, led by example, go beyond the boundaries, motivate, and a team player.
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor degree with 6 years of Information Technology experience, or in lieu of degree 8 years of working experience.
