Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Senior Video Correspondent to join its team in New York.

WSJ Video blends deep reporting with an array of formats: investigations, short and longform field pieces, fast-paced quick turn news content, video podcasts, social content, and series.

Candidates need exceptional news judgment and an extensive background in video journalism that includes deep reporting skills, source development, research, and script writing. We’re looking for someone who can break news and thrives on building original reporting.

You should be prepared to deploy into the field as needed to cover stories. You will work on short, medium and long-term reporting projects, and therefore should have experience managing a healthy pipeline of continuous work. Some experience shooting and editing video is a plus.

To apply, please submit your resume, a short cover letter outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, and links to 3 examples of your best work.

You Will:

  • Pitch, develop, research, report and script for a variety of formats, lengths, structures and stories to be produced for all platforms
  • Consistently generate new ideas, build sources, and pitch, developing stories that are journalistically powerful
  • Act as a lead reporter/producer, managing multiple projects in various stages of production, on tight deadlines, both in the field and in house.
  • Appear on camera when necessary for the story. You will often serve as the face of a piece when reporting from the field, or in a studio.
  • Ensure that all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed by working with the leadership of the video team.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the WSJ newsroom.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including breaking news assignments.

You Have

  • At least 10 years of experience as a reporter and/or producer at a national or global media company.
  • Deep experience building sources and developing original, exclusive stories.
  • Extensive experience reporting in the field for video, ideally with some experience in conflict zones or other hostile environments.
  • Excellent news judgment and proven ability to collaborate with producers, editors, graphics and design teams to execute projects
  • Prior experience with every aspect of video production from start to finish, under tight deadlines.
  • Deep understanding and interest in The Journal’s core coverage areas.
  • Clear communication skills with exceptional written and collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
