About This Job
Position Specific Summary
The Street Maintenance Worker II position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility performs maintenance and repairs tasks, including asphalt, streets, grounds, or sidewalks and providing emergency services as needed. This position operates and maintains heavy equipment within the Street Maintenance Division.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Street Maintenance Supervisor. This position does not supervise.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Inspects, repairs, and maintains streets and other infrastructure to prevent or alleviate damage or wear. Submits blue stake requests prior to start of maintenance and repair work. Removes debris, brush, or objects and performs weed abatement. weeds and brush from city right-of-ways and other infrastructure. Maintains roadways by removing and replacing medium to large sections of asphalt, filling potholes, and sealing cracks.
- Operates a variety of small heavy equipment such as water trucks for cleaning streets and removing debris, rollers for compacting asphalt and other materials to create a smooth surface, and seal cracks in pavement to prevent further damage, and jack hammers to break up materials and pneumatic compacting equipment as needed.
- Sets up detained and complex traffic control systems according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Manual (MUTCD).
- Assists in maintaining concrete structures by removing and replacing sections of sidewalk, curb, gutters, and manhole covers.
- Ensures proper maintenance and operation of equipment by keeping detailed records equipment usage, and materials, and performing basic preventative maintenance as needed.
- Responds to emergency calls for service including post-storm cleanup, de-icing bridges, and setting up or taking down signs and barricades, and performing emergency road repairs to ensure public safety.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GEDExperience: Two (2) years of relevant experience
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Constructions or related field
