GEOINT Operations Support Systems Engineer

Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security.

KBR is seeking a GEOINT Operations Support Systems Engineer to bridge real-time satellite operations with ground segment engineering. You’ll help shape mission CONOPS, stand up enterprise performance metrics, and set up tasking for engineering studies. You’ll partner closely with government stakeholders, development primes, and mission operations teams. KBR is looking for a stellar, proactive candidate who will be given significant technical responsibility.

Why Join Us?

  • Innovative Projects: KBR’s work is at the forefront of engineering, logistics, operations, science, program management, mission IT and cybersecurity solutions.
  • Collaborative Environment: Be part of a dynamic team that thrives on collaboration and innovation, fostering a supportive and intellectually stimulating workplace.
  • Impactful Work: Your contributions will be pivotal in designing and optimizing defense systems that ensure national security and shape the future of space defense.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mission/Operations Engineering: Ensure programs deliver operational capabilities across tasking, execution, processing, and dissemination (TCPED). Support launch/early-orbit, space vehicle checkout, and transitions to IOC & FOC.
  • Technical SME: Provide hands on technical guidance for GEOINT capabilities, collaborate with development contractors and mission partners to troubleshoot issues and validate fixes. Technical understanding of technical subjects like PNT/GNC, collision avoidance, and demisability are essential.
  • Prime Oversight & Requirements: Interface with development primes to monitor O&M, verify performance against KPPs/MOEs, and maintain alignment with government requirements, ICDs, and CONOPS.
  • CONOPS & Playbooks: Author, update, and execute Concepts of Operations and operator playbooks for a collection system that is tasked and operated unlike legacy constellations.
  • Performance Analytics: Define and track enterprise/system/functional metrics (availability, latency/timeliness, throughput, duty cycle, tasking allocation, collection efficiency). Drive dashboards and reporting.
  • Strategic Planning: Lead technical trade studies, future architecture recommendations, and programmatic planning (scheduling, PB/PPBE inputs, ROMs/ICE, acquisition timelines).
  • Readiness & Risk: Conduct readiness reviews, capacity/availability analyses, discrepancy/improvement triage, and anomaly response coordination.
  • Stakeholder Integration: Coordinate across mission ops directorates and analysis/data facilities in the GEOINT enterprise (e.g., MOD, ground enterprise services, and production partners).

Work Environment:

  • Location: On-site.
  • Travel Requirements: Minimal travel. Anticipate up to 25%.
  • Working Hours: Standard 40 hours per week.
  • Clearance: TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent years of relevant experience)
  • Experience (10+ years): IC/DoD/commercial space operations and ground systems delivering GEOINT mission outcomes.
  • On-Orbit Ops: Demonstrated experience with LEO/MEO spacecraft initialization, SV checkout, and tasking.

Qualifications: Required:

  • Radar/SAR: Experience with SAR tasking, command & control, collection, processing, and dissemination workflows. Understanding of duty cycle, PRF, look geometry, and phenomenology.
  • Ground Segment: Familiarity with mission planning, scheduling, ground software/services, automated processing pipelines, product quality, and timeliness.
  • GEOINT Enterprise: Experience collaborating with mission operations directorates and analysis/data facilities across the GEOINT community (e.g., MOD, GED-like ground enterprise services, and NGA partnerships).
  • Metrics & Reporting: Proven ability to define/track ops metrics and report to leadership; comfort with modeling & simulation.
  • Standards/ICDs: Working knowledge of GEOINT data/product standards (e.g., NITF, SICD, STANAGs) and interface control discipline.
  • Education: Advanced degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Ability to perform math and analysis as needed
  • Scripting for ops analytics/automation (Python/Bash)
  • Prior collaboration with SDA, NRO, NGA, NRL and others
  • Acquisition cycle experience (CDRL and systems engineering bookkeeping)
  • Ready to Make a Difference?

Desired Qualifications:

  • Mbse (Sysml/Cameo)
