Core Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineering Manager (SEM) in Digital Platforms, be the line manager to a group of software engineers with a focus on platform engineering of our API Discoverability & Enablement team. Apart from guiding and mentoring these, the SEM will be involved in architecting, designing, building, and operating our products, too. Coach the engineers and work closely with multi-functional teams to identify and prioritize platform features together with our Product Manager and Lead Engineers. Being part in drive the Digital Transformation anchor in our API First strategy.

The API Discoverability & Enablement team is one of the pillars of our Digital Platforms department. The goal is to build and maintain tools and libraries that can be reused and shared across all our product domains as well as enable engineers across the LEGO Group to adopt our platforms and standard methodologies.

The team is part of our API first strategy; we believe that APIs and Async APIs are the key for enabling business agility and provide the way for truly empowered product teams that can access the data they need when they need it. For this we strive to provide consistent, scalable, and self-service platforms that help the LEGO Group achieve a common API surface and standardized consumption. Our API Management platform is built around open standards and best of breed cloud-native technologies.

We apply platform engineering and product management practices to ensure we build what brings the most value to our customers (the other software engineers) and ensure a close feedback loop.

The team is split between our Billund Campus office and the new LEGO Digital Hub in Copenhagen, offering an exciting, inspiring, and flexible work environment.

Do You Have What It Takes?

The preferred candidate will need to have some leadership experience either as engineering manager, team/tech lead capacity or from mentoring software engineers. A solid technical background (5+ years hands-on software development engineering experience with at least one modern programming language, like Python, Java, C#), with good experience in APIs and Event Driven Architectures.

Come with a good understanding of API management tools and platforms and be comfortable working with a variety of technologies. Strong interest in developing and inspiring others, as they will be responsible for building and leading a team of API engineers. They need to collaborate with multiple partners across organizations and get along with the senior leadership on strategic topics around API adoption.

To succeed in this role, you preferably have competence within the following:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferably experience with Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
  • Proficient in modern technology stacks and architectural patterns like event driven architectures and microservices.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud native development and corresponding services as well as architecture build patterns.
  • Experienced with CI/CD pipelines and git-based source control as well as container technologies and domain driven design.

Advanced English both written and verbally are needed since we are an international gathered team.
