EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

•    High school diploma or general educational degree (GED) required; associate degree preferred.

•    At least two years of experience working in family support, community outreach, or a similar role, preferred.

•    Experience coordinating and/or managing programs in an educational, non-profit, and/or human services setting, preferred.

•    Experience in an educational setting and/or interpreting language for minority families, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Fluency in English and Spanish – reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

•    Ability to assist families, staff, administrators, and the community of English learners.

•    Knowledge of community resources and services available to families. 

•    Understands and respects the different economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds of families.

•    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.

•    Ability to work collaboratively with families, school staff, and community stakeholders. 

•    Proficiency in digital communication tools (i.e., Microsoft Office 365) and platforms to engage families and the community.

•    Demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality.

•    Strong written and verbal communication skills; writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information.

•    Follows Standard Operating Procedures; prioritizes and plans work activities; completes tasks correctly and on time.

•    Ability to work flexible hours to support evening and weekend family engagement events and activities, as needed.

•    Maintains confidentiality with student, family, and school information.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  
•    Works with the Community School Coordinator to assist multi-language learners (MLL) in accessing school and community resources, including educational support, healthcare, nutrition programs, and social services.
•     Assists the Community School Coordinator as a point of contact for families, providing timely and relevant information about school initiatives, resources, and opportunities for involvement.
•    Serve as a liaison for multilingual learner students to remove barriers to promote student achievement.  
•    Assist multi-language learner students and families by providing wrap-around services and activities, including referrals to agency/organization programs in coordination with the school-based and district Community School Coordinators.
•    Collaborate with Community School Coordinator, program personnel, school staff, and parents/families to develop and complete annual Community Schools program needs assessment activities. 
•    Develop programs for multi-language learner families to (1) help their children improve their academic achievement and (2) become active participants in the education of their children through meetings and workshops with families.
•    Facilitates the collaboration of community resources and promotes family and individual connections for immigrant families with the Charles County community.
•    Disseminate Community Schools' needs assessment data to establish the need to serve multilingual learner students and families. 
•    Represents international families with various community agencies.  
•    Attends Community Schools steering committee meetings and other school-based or community meetings as needed.  
•    Coordinates with the Judy Center Instructional Specialist to ensure that multi-language learners (MLL) families receive information in their native language. 
•    Assist multi-language learner families with the school registration process in coordination with the International Registration Coordinator.
•    Attend professional development opportunities to increase multi-language learner (MLL) family engagement capacity.
•    Other duties as assigned under the supervision of the Community School District Liaison.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
