POSITION SUMMARY 
Charles County Public Schools is seeking a qualified Behavior Support Specialist to provide training and support to school system personnel, enabling them to implement effective interventions for students.  The Behavior Support Specialist will assist in developing behavior support plans, train staff in plan implementation, and monitor the implementation of these plans.

  • EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  •    Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or related field required
  •    Current BCBA or BCaBA certification, preferred 
  •    Advanced degree in education, psychology, or a related field preferred
  •    Experience teaching and implementing behavior plans for students preferred
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  •    Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population of students
  •    Ability to work comfortably with students with extreme emotional and behavioral concerns

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Implements school-wide behavior programs, including procedures for reinforcing specific replacement behaviors; 
• Conducts functional behavior assessments and develops behavior intervention plans for the student population; 
• Works with classroom teams and school staff to develop student-specific data collection systems;
• Analyzes behavior data to make adjustments/modifications to students’ programming;
• Provides training to program staff, including administrators, teachers, and instructional assistants, on behavioral principles/strategies, including trauma informed practices; 
• Models intervention techniques and provides feedback to staff; 
• Participates as an IEP team member at meetings;  
• Works collaboratively with the school based behavior support teacher, school psychologist, counselor, administration, and the Community School Coordinator to address behavioral concerns of identified students; 
• Works with staff to implement research-based instructional strategies to promote positive behavior;
• Assists with developing and implementing a positive reinforcement program for staff;
• Maintains non-violent crisis intervention training and train staff in these techniques; 
• Participates on the school’s crisis team and intervene when students are displaying extremely challenging or dangerous behavior; 
• Receives professional development training and guidance from the central office Student Services Behavior Support Specialist, participates on the Behavior Support Teacher team, and follows program team’s policies and procedures;
• Other duties as assigned under the supervision of the Community School District Liaison.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
