In This Position...

We are hiring a passionate, proven leader to drive the next generation of user experiences. As a Senior UX Design Manager on the FCSD Tech team, you will set UX direction and lead several design teams. You will own delivery of high-quality user-experience solutions that meet business goals, improve customer outcomes, and strengthen the relationship between Ford and its customers.

You will be responsible for understanding user behavior, shaping concepts for new products, and working closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders across the organization. You will hire, manage, and mentor UX managers and designers. A successful manager is pragmatic, has a bias for action, and is willing to contribute hands-on design guidance when needed.

Onsite work of up to four days per week may be required for candidates within commuting distance of a Ford hub location.

What You’Ll Do…

  • Evangelize user-centered design across a portfolio of products and act as a strong voice for human-centered practices.
  • Lead and coach designers who are embedded in cross-functional product teams responsible for multi-team digital products.
  • Define and evolve team processes, standards, and culture to scale design work and collaboration.
  • Mentor and grow design leaders—develop their leadership, UX craft, and team-management capabilities—and contribute to an inclusive digital organization.
  • Partner in discovery and problem framing for new software products, driving research and validation activities.
  • Ensure consistency, usability, and accessibility across product lines and design efforts.
  • Integrate design into the software delivery lifecycle so UX work is timely, actionable, and drives positive user engagement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define and execute strategy and programs.
  • Balance user needs, business objectives, and technical feasibility to deliver pragmatic, high-quality experiences.
  • Support teams to concept, prototype, test, launch, and iterate products using systems thinking to address known and emergent user needs.
  • Operate a data-informed design practice—partnering with analytics to support test & learn programs and measure outcomes.
  • Proactively manage stakeholder expectations, surface risks early, and identify solutions.

You'Ll Have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX/Interaction/Product Designer/Visual Design or similar field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. 
  • 8+ years of experience in digital and/or software design working with a Portfolio of work demonstrating ability to lead the creation of exceptional customer experiences across a range of touchpoints as well as proficiency in UI and interaction design with case studies
  • 3+ years of experience leading and coaching UX designers (directly or indirectly) by demonstrating standard methodologies in design communication and approaches, mentorship, and sharing your work and knowledge with others.
  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining design teams

Even better, you may have...

  • Master’s degree in UX/Interaction/Product Designer/Visual Design or similar
  • Experience conducting discovery and user validation interviews
  • Experience crafting high profile consumer websites and apps
  • Expert visual design acumen demonstrated through owning product design end-to-end.
  • Ability to create interactive experiences with prototyping software or by hand.
  • Understanding of modern front-end technologies and frameworks
  • Passion for the automotive industry
  • Proven ability to build consensus, influence, and work effectively within a cross-functional team of designers, product managers, and engineers. Experience with building relationships, credibility, and proactive communication with team members and senior leaders.
  • Proven experience in combining quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions.
  • Understanding of translation of business metrics to inform goals of user-centric design.
  • Flexibility to work on initiatives with unclear and/or changing requirements. Strong project management, problem-solving, verbal/written communication, and context switching skills.
  • High-level knowledge of design tools such as: Sketch, InVision, Figma, and/or other design and prototyping software.
