The EMEA Labor Counsel will provide expert legal advice and support on all employment and labor law matters across EMEA and global projects. This role will ensure compliance with EU directives and country-specific labor regulations while supporting business objectives and minimizing legal risks
Legal Advisory
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on European labor and employment matters
- Interpret and apply EU labor directives and country-specific employment regulations
- Support HR teams with day-to-day employment law questions and compliance issues
- Review and draft employment contracts, policies, and handbooks for European jurisdictions
Employee Relations
- Manage complex employee relations issues including disciplinary matters, grievances, and terminations
- Advise on restructuring, redundancies, and transfer of undertakings (TUPE) processes
- Support collective bargaining negotiations and works council consultations
- Develop strategies to mitigate employment litigation risks
Compliance Management
- Monitor and analyze changes to EU and local employment legislation
- Develop and implement compliance programs for European operations
- Conduct training for HR and management teams on labor law requirements
- Perform compliance audits and recommend corrective actions
Litigation Management
- Manage employment litigation and administrative proceedings
- Coordinate with external counsel when necessary
- Represent the company in labor courts and before regulatory authorities
- Develop settlement strategies and negotiate resolutions
Project Support
- Provide legal support for cross-border projects and transactions
- Conduct employment law due diligence for mergers and acquisitions
- Advise on data privacy implications of HR processes and systems
- Support implementation of new HR policies and practices across European operations
- Support global HR projects
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Legal Counsel, HR Business Partners, and Operations to align labor relations with business and legal objectives.
- Provide training and guidance to managers on labor relations and employment law best practices.
- Law degree required; advanced degree in EU or international law preferred
- Qualified lawyer in at least one European jurisdiction
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in employment and labor law, with significant European exposure
- In-house legal experience in a multinational company preferred
- Experience with works councils and collective bargaining processes
- Experience in the TIC industry or other regulated sectors preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of EU employment directives and their implementation
- Strong understanding of employment laws in multiple European countries
- Experience with cross-border employment issues and international assignments
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Business acumen and ability to balance legal risks with business objectives
- Fluent English required. Proficiency in other European languages is preferred (French, Dutch, German, Spanish, or Italian)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with global teams
