JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health), Galveston, Texas, seeks an outpatient clinical cardiologists to join its robust, academic cardiology practice at the rank of Assistant Professor of higher. The position are available immediately for the Galveston, Friendswood, and Webster areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following outlines the professional responsibilities for outpatient cardiologists within the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). These duties align with UTMB’s mission of excellence in patient care, education, research, and community engagement.
- Conduct outpatient cardiology clinics for new, return, and follow-up patients.
- Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests (e.g., ECG, echocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitoring, ).
- Develop and manage individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate referrals to subspecialty services (e.g., electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, heart failure).
- Manage medication regimens, including initiation, titration, and monitoring.
- Provide same-day patient access when clinically indicated.
- Respond to patient and referring provider inquiries in a timely manner.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows during outpatient clinics.
- Participate in didactic teaching sessions, case conferences, and journal clubs for cardiology fellows and at medical school.
- Contribute to curriculum development for cardiovascular education.
- Supervise trainee documentation and ensure adherence to institutional standards.
- Participate in clinical research projects, including patient recruitment for trials.
- Publish scholarly articles, abstracts, or presentations in the field of cardiology.
- Support quality improvement projects focused on ambulatory cardiology care.
- Document patient encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Attend departmental and divisional meetings.
- Collaborate with clinic management to optimize patient flow and access.
- Participate in institutional committees as assigned.
- Contribute to development of clinical protocols, pathways, and best practices.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal healthcare regulations.
- Maintain appropriate credentialing, licensure, and continuing medical education (CME) requirements.
- Participate in peer review and morbidity/mortality conferences.
- Attend & participate in national and regional cardiology conferences.
- Engage in outreach to referring providers and community organizations.
- Represent the institution in professional societies and advocacy efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MD degree or equivalent, Board certified or eligible in ABIM Cardiovascular Diseases. Must have completed an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency. Possess or eligible for full medical license in the State of Texas
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
