Opportunity:
The Medical Affairs Global Strategic Brand Lead (MA GSBL) for Precision Medicine (PM) provides strategic direction for CDx/Biomarkers throughout late development, launch, and post-launch phases. The role ensures CDx strategies are embedded in the Core Medical Plan (CMP) and leads on evidence generation and dissemination. Key responsibilities include overseeing CDx/PM tactics, aligning with the Commercial PM team to drive business growth, collaborating with co-creation countries to advance diagnostic and medical objectives, and capturing external insights to inform the global PM strategy.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Leading the development of the Medical Product Strategy (MPS) and ensuring CDx strategies and tactics are embedded in the Core Medical Plan (CMP)
- Contributing to the creation of the Integrated Evidence Generation Plan (iEGP) with cross-functional experts, establishing the strategic foundation for evidence generation
- Defining and overseeing overarching objectives with medical KPIs, ensuring alignment across global and local strategies
- Leading a high-impact team accountable for delivering CDx/PM evidence generation and dissemination tactics in the CMP, ensuring seamless execution that balances global objectives with local needs
- Managing budgets for global evidence generation and dissemination activities
- Empowering and enabling affiliates to deliver CDx/PM non-evidence generation and dissemination tactics, fostering dialogue to address local needs
- Ensuring robust governance and review of all CDx/PM MA study synopses and protocols, maintaining high standards for evidence generation
- Implementing the Integrated Evidence Dissemination Plan with strong scientific messages, providing centralized resources and iterative feedback to refine messaging
- Enabling execution of CDx/PM tactics in the global launch plan, defining KPIs and metrics to track progress
- Supporting internal and external medical education on CDx/Biomarkers in new disease areas and innovative treatment modalities
- Fostering collaboration across Commercial, Market Access, Development, Patient Centricity, and Medical Affairs (local, regional, co-creation) to align strategies and implement CDx/PM tactics addressing patient and HCP needs
- Partnering with R&D to shape CDx/Biomarker development, ensuring clinical viability and patient access at launch
- Communicating insights from advisory interactions and Field Medical to drive timely responses to evolving needs
- Driving cross-geography alignment for consistent medical affairs execution and CDx/PM messaging
- Building and maintaining relationships with diagnostic partners, testing labs, external experts, advocacy groups, medical organizations, and regulatory bodies to strengthen the company’s global presence in Precision Medicine
- Acting as a trusted representative in external forums, conferences, and industry partnerships
- Coaching and Team Development:
- Coaching and developing team members while driving cultural and operational transformation initiatives, fostering behaviours aligned with the Astellas Way and CMT Ways of Working, and preparing the organization for long-term sustainable success
- Embedding a strong compliance culture across all activities and acting as a role model for ethical behaviour, fostering integrity and accountability throughout the organization.
- Extensive experience in progressive leadership experience in Pharmaceutical Medicine, including solid experience in the CDx/PM space, ideally within Medical Affairs, pharmaceutical/diagnostic companies, commercial laboratories, or academic institutions
- Leading cross-functional, geographically diverse matrix teams and influencing without direct authority to deliver high-impact business results
- Driving brand medical affairs strategy, including product launches and lifecycle management
- Developing innovative, patient-centered evidence generation and dissemination strategies to support patient access and brand performance
- Strong understanding of industry trends, regulatory environments, and market access pathways for CDx
- Advanced knowledge of global pharma regulations and guidelines (IFPMA, PhRMA, FDA, EMA, PMDA, ACCME, OIG) with the ability to apply legal and compliance considerations to Medical Affairs activities
- Managing large budgets with proactive risk management for timelines and financial performance
Skills and Leadership:
- Leading and inspiring high-performing global matrix teams while applying strategic thinking, business acumen, and strong communication and influencing skills to drive results in complex, fast-paced environments
- A medical degree (MD or equivalent) or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy or Pharmacology recognized by one of the leading governing bodies from around the globe or equivalent.
- Medically qualified with at solid experience in direct patient care
- Work experience across multiple cultures and countries / regions.
Working Environment:
- The is a permanent full-time position based in the UK.
- This position follows our hybrid working model. Role requires a blend of home and minimum of 1 day a quarter in our Addlestone office. Flexibility may be required in line with business need. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office.
