Description
The postdoctoral candidate will develop in silico models to approximate the regulation of IVD degeneration with emphasis on the interplay between the innate immune system and the CEP. The work encompasses various in silico modeling techniques to cover the multiple spatial scales, i.e. from molecular detailed to multicellular high-level regulatory networks, up to tissue level finite element models, required to adequately incorporate molecular data, and model regulations of inflammatory and degenerative processes. Available datasets at the molecular level will be incorporated through machine learning techniques. Moreover, the work is tightly connected to experimental findings, hence a basic understanding of wet lab experiments is necessary. The IVD multiscale model developed by the postdoctoral researcher forms part of a large network of interconnected models that simulate other non-communicable diseases such as OA and AS and their connection via the blood stream. Hence, the postdoctoral researcher will tightly collaborate with a team of computer scientists, data scientists, biomechanicians and experts in cell and molecular biology.

Application Instructions
The selection committee uses several indicators to evaluate the applicant’s preparedness, motivation and potential.
1st phase, remote pre-selection (100 points): The evaluation is based on the candidate background regarding the requirements listed under “required research experience” and “additional requirements” based on the provided documents (see below).
2nd phase, interviews (100 points) & final decision:
Should the candidate be preselected during the 1st phase, a 2nd phase will consist in at least one interview through which the motivation, the proactive behavior, the capacity to work collaboratively, the organizational skills, the communication skills and the capacity to engage in a scientific discussion and manage problems, will be assessed, among other aspects.
The final decision will be the result of a consensus of a recruitment committee that will take into account the results of both recruitment phases 1 and 2. To progress to the 2nd phase of selection, the candidate must have obtained at least 80 points at the 1st phase. Eventual selection after the 2nd phase is further subject to the capacity of the candidate to obtain at least 80 additional points, based on the interview.
Application Process:
The candidates are expected to provide the following documents:
-
A Full Cv
- A letter of purpose (one A4 page)
- A copy of the doctoral certificate
- A document containing i) a list with scientific publications, ii) scientific recognitions and merits (if available)
