Project Support Immunology and Tissue Typing Laboratories

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, Clinical Support Coordinator is a valuable member of the Department of Laboratories team. This position reports to the Administrative Director, Clinical Pathology. Medical and technical oversight of the Immunology Laboratory is provided by the Head of Clinical Immunology/Flow Cytometry and Laboratory Director. This position responsibilities include supporting the administrative and technical operations of the Immunology Laboratory (comprised of the Main Immunology, Flow Cytometry & Lyme Laboratory sections). Medical and technical oversight of the Tissue Typing Laboratory is provided by the Director of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics and the Laboratory Director. This position responsibilities include supporting administrative operations of the Tissue Typing Laboratory.

Duties of a Clinical Support Coordinator may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Provides support to the Immunology and Tissue Typing Laboratory in the oversight  of operations including but not limited to compliance with all established standards, i.e. NYSDOH, CAP, ASHI, JCAHO, CLIA etc., participate in staff recruitment, staff scheduling, training/cross training and competencies, adequate supply inventory, planning and coordinating LIS projects, implementation and updating of new tests or equipments, etc.
  • Assists in ensuring that adequate staffing levels are maintained at all times. Assists in monitoring staff productivity and adjust staff when necessary. Commit to writing detailed requirements for increased staffing (utilize staffing matrix format).
  • Assists in  annual review of CPT coding and related billing data.
  • Assists in Quality Assurance initiatives, Safety Programs and benchmarking projects in the Tissue Typing and Immunology (Main, Lyme & Flow Cytometry) lab sections.
  • Provides support in overseeing  resolution of Facilities issues.
  • Assists in overseeing instruction of technical staff, Medical Technology students and pathology residents in the Immunology Laboratory methodologies and principles. Coordinates the Physician Assistant Student Tour in the Tissue Typing and Immunology (Main, Lyme & Flow Cytometry) lab sections.  Participates in continuing education and in-service education programs within the Immunology and Tissue Typing Laboratory Departments. Participates, as appropriate, in lectures given through the School of Health Professions at Stony Brook.
  • Provides support to the Laboratory Safety Committee. Schedule meetings, writes the meeting agenda, conducts the meetings which includes standing Items, previous meeting business, new business, safety initiatives and reviewing all Injury/Illness reports since the previous meeting suggesting corrective/preventative actions as necessary. Ensures that the meeting minutes are written, reviewed and signed by the co-chairs and Department of Laboratories Laboratory Director. The meeting minutes are stored electronically and sent to the committee members and EH&S.
  • Ad hoc projects as assigned by the Administrative Director of Clinical Pathology. As assigned, be an on-site point of contact for the Clinical Pathology Operations when the Administrative Director of Clinical Pathology is off-site and on-site assistance is needed.
  • Assists in coordination reconciliating Reportable HIV test results with the number of test received in the NYSDOH Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reportable System (ECLRS).
  • Assists in revieweing monthly and annual tests codes and test results that are reported to NYSDOH Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reportable System (ECLRS).
  • Assists in monthly listing to SBUH Finance towards invoicing the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO)-LiveOnNY for Tissue Typing Lab services provided.
  • In the event of non-conformance ensures that results are not reported until corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.
  • NYSED Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist
  • Minimum six years of Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience with a minimum two years of supervisory experience.
  • Relevant hands-on experience in Clinical Immunology and Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics laboratories.
  • Competency with computer applications, e.g., Microsoft Office (word, excel and Power Point)
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills.
  • Candidate must be able to think tactically and strategically.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent and proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in healthcare administration or relevant field.
  • Experience in academic medical center hospital laboratory based setting.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $75.00 - 80.00 / hour.

The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.  The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience.  Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
