Java Consultant

The Role

We are seeking a Consultant to support a new platform initiative. The ideal candidate has experience designing and maintaining sophisticated platform solutions, with a proven track record of ownership and of driving IT initiatives that enhance efficiency, agility, performance, and operational excellence.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer who will provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert (SME), define the technical direction for a new project, lead requirements gathering and analysis, collaborate with Scrum teams to deliver a scalable, robust software solution.

Our client operates as a central hub for multiple business entities across entertainment, media, and interactive services. The focus is on creating cross-organizational synergies, improving operational efficiency, enabling shared insights, and elevating customer experiences through curated APIs, capabilities, and data. This group also functions as a gateway to interactive entertainment services, routing traffic and delivering solutions across these organizations.

What You Will Do

• Support multiple teams in setting technical direction, ensure engineering standards, and solve the hardest technical challenges.
• Demonstrate the ability to shape technological recommendations and highlight their value.
• Hands-On Development: writing and reviewing code (or designing systems), with the focus on the most complex, high-impact parts.
• Define system architecture (low level designs), ensure scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Guide and coach other engineers, sharing best practices, and raising the overall technical capability of the team.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, designers, and other engineers to ensure alignment between business needs and technical solutions, analyse and document technical requirements, user stories.
• Contribute to long-term technology strategy, not just short-term deliverables.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in a hands-on development role at a commercial software company
• Expertise in designing and implementing distributed enterprise software solutions
• Experience with event-driven architecture, event aggregation and microservices
• Extensive experience with cloud services and solutions (AWS)
• Extensive experience developing enterprise web applications using Java (17+), the Spring Boot ecosystem, and building robust RESTful services.
• Experience building scalable systems with very high levels of concurrency and transactions
• Object-oriented analysis and design
• Experience with NoSQL (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB) and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), including data modeling and query optimization.
• Expertise in caching strategies and technologies, including distributed caches like Redis or Amazon ElastiCache.
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
• Expertise in containerization and orchestration, including Docker, Kubernetes (AWS EKS), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform and Helm charts.
• Proven track record of leading and delivering production-ready solutions with multiple Scrum teams (2+), ensuring high-quality outcomes
• Experience with Agile/SCRUM software development
• Experience with frontend development using React.
