Principle Quantum Software Architect

Our team combines hardware innovation with software technologies and Azure services to build scalable quantum technologies in an industry-leading quantum ecosystem. This Principal Quantum Architect position offers an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the design of future scalable quantum computers. 

Microsoft Quantum is seeking an experienced Principal Quantum Software Architect responsible for designing full-stack architectures for multiple qubit platforms. Your role is to develop, implement, and own the high-performance software tools for compilation and synthesis of quantum information at multiple levels of abstraction, and simulation of quantum subsystems across multiples levels of the stack.

Responsibilities

• Designing the subsystems of the complex architecture that defines the quantum machine, 
• Developing advanced toolsets for modeling quantum components, 
• Developing new quantum applications and determining the quantum resources needed to execute them, and 
• Driving cross-group collaboration within Microsoft Quantum’s qubit modeling, quantum error correction, and quantum applications teams.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND significant experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND solid experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR Doctorate in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND noteworthy experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR equivalent experience. 
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: high-performance computing, quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, quantum simulation. 
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations, with strong communication and leadership skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND significant experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND solid experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR Doctorate in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline AND noteworthy experience in industry or in a research and development environment 
• OR equivalent experience. 
• Experience in design and developing quantum compilers, quantum simulators, and/or high-performance optimizers. 

Additional Qualifications

• Ability to leverage AI tools to drive innovation and efficiency (e.g., performance modeling and analysis, research gathering, day to day task automation). 
• Evaluate agentic solutions with measurable metrics and human-in-the-loop safeguards following Microsoft Responsible AI requirements for generative AI.
• Security Requirements: The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
