Are you a Gymnastics professional? Are you interested in serving the community? The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking a Gymnastics Program Supervisor to lead and operate all areas of our robust and popular gymnastics recreational classes and competitive teams' program.

This position supervises a large area of recreational and competitive services including quarterly recreational classes, support of two competitive teams, summer camp program, a recreational adapted program, and more! The position will be integral to the Athletics and Facility Services Division and is expected to be an organized and strategic leader of several full and part-time staff serving the Arlington community.

DPR operates an outstanding Gymnastics Program located at the Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center in Arlington, Virginia. The facility boasts two 10,000 sf. gymnasiums with gymnastics equipment for competitive teams and recreational classes. The program hosts over 500 Recreational Classes yearly and supports two Competitive Teams: the Arlington Aerials and Arlington Tigers, who travel and compete both regionally and outside of Virginia.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide leadership and management to multiple staff for a large and diverse workforce, including permanent and temporary coaches and instructors;
  • Correspond and interact with parents in-person, on the phone or via email;
  • Liaise with parent organizations, attending monthly meetings, and respond to inquiries from the Arlington Aerials Parents Association (AAPA) and Arlington Tigers Parents Association (ATPA);
  • Create, implement, and enforce gym policies for staff and athletes with a focus on safety of the athletes and coaches;
  • Collaborate with Programmers in developing staff schedules to maximize coaching time in the gym and equitable equipment usage;
  • Supervise creation of quarterly class schedule for recreational classes, in conjunction with competitive team practice schedule and the team meet schedule; 
  • Develop and implement gym coaching philosophy with all staff;
  • Manage staff travel costs, appropriate County travel approvals, and accounting for reconciliation and billing; and
  • Manage payroll, performance evaluations, and other administrative functions.

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Health Science, or closely related field; and
  • Considerable experience managing, planning, and organizing recreational programs or gymnastics activities.
  • Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in a related field and experience in one or more of the following:

  • Managing a large diverse workforce;
  • Creating practice and/or coaching plans;
  • Public or private gym administrator experience;
  • Familiarity with SafeSport and implementation of the program; and/or
  • Current USAG membership and familiarity with USAG policies and procedures.

Special Requirements

Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicants driving record.

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted.  It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Additional Information

Work hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. – 4:30p.m. Weekend and evening work will be required depending on programmatic needs. Employee must be able to travel to different locations.

The official title of this position is a DPR Program Supervisor.
