The University of Louisville is seeking a Department Coordinator who will manage and oversee the day-to-day needs of the pre-health and professional health support programs initiative. The Department Coordinator will focus on the development and management of key support programs, workshops, and events, actively recruit for enrichment programs, create marketing and PR materials, and provide holistic advising for pre-health students in our pathway programs. The Department Coordinator will work closely with campus and community stakeholders to establish resources and support services and coordinate off campus experiences for pathway pre-health and professional students with other partners on the campus. This position will work with stakeholders on both the Belknap and the HSC campuses.
NOTE: This position is grant-funded.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
Campus Outreach, Collaborative Partnerships, Programming
- Coordinate student’s participation in professional development opportunities.
- Create, organize and manage workshops, events, and programming that deepen the understanding of diverse pathways and the essential skills based on holistic review practices for our students who are pursuing careers in the health professions.
- Develop ongoing workshops for pre-health students as a core support element of the program and experience.
- Support student enrichment programs, test programs, learning strategies, etc.
- Support the development and implementation of programs supporting students interested in primary care.
Advising And Recruitment
- Provide holistic advising that prioritizes students’ knowledge of the pre-health pathway and specific skill-building for it.
- Facilitate referrals as appropriate.
- Recruit students to participate in enrichment programs, conduct information sessions, and organize and attend key recruitment conferences.
- Coordinates proactive support strategies for student retention.
Administrative
- Recruit, train, and supervise interns and student workers.
- Create marketing materials for programming, manage social media accounts, and conduct PR campaigns.
- Conduct program evaluations in coordination with the Assessment Director and produce individual event reports as well as semester participation reports for designated programs.
- Support the Student Success Specialist with ad hoc assignments and projects and help to maintain a system that tracks student participation in program offerings/enrichment programs.
- Stay up to date on current trends of college eligible and college students, including first-generation, and/or low-income college students pursuing careers in the health professions.
May require occasional travel between University buildings to meet with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree and two years of experience in higher education and programming.
Competencies
- Knowledge of pre-health requirements, admission processes, holistic review process, and student development theories.
- Knowledge of student success and retention initiatives, outreach strategies and marketing techniques.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Suites, Google Drive, Google Docs, OneDrive, Canva, etc.
- Experience advising and supporting diverse populations.
- Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
Strong Organizational Skills.
