The Department of Engineering Fundamentals at the University of Louisville invites applications for a position as Teaching-Track (Term) Faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor beginning December 1, 2025. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and funding. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the newly formed applied engineering curriculum. This includes primary teaching responsibility for the Semiconductor Electronics, the Solid Modeling & Rapid Prototyping course, and the Digital Electronics courses. These courses are lab intensive and require excellence in both lecture and experiential teaching formats. In addition to the courses, the successful candidate will be responsible for continuing the laboratory build-out and assisting other instructors as the program grows.
The applied engineering program begins January 2026 as a 2+2 program with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) in Glendale, Kentucky. UofL will be providing the applied engineering courses on-site at the Glendale Training Center. The initial focus of the program will be in automation and robotics, with subsequent focus-tracks rolling out in later years. Beginning Fall 2026, we are projected to start a parallel applied engineering program on the Belknap campus in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses, develop labs and coordinate with instructors at both locations.
Required Qualifications
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Engineering or a related field
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, including working with a diverse population
- Some relevant industrial experience in automation and robotics, or similar field
- Familiarity with hands-on learning and experiential education teaching paradigms
- Experience with electronics and semiconductor systems
- Experience with computer aided design and 3D Modeling for engineering
- Genuine interest in cooperating with other instructors as part of a teaching team
- Commitment to high-quality teaching and student success
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest and experience interacting with first-year college students or a similar population
- Interest and experience teaching applied engineering courses
- Interest and experience using evidence-based teaching practices and active learning
- Interest and experience in continuous course improvement based on scholarship of teaching and learning
Department Information
The University of Louisville’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Engineering program is a new degree with an initial cohort beginning Fall 2025. This new degree program will emphasize the “hands-on” side of engineering and enable our graduates to manage and design the new processes, systems, and operations being incorporated into our growing industrial base. The students will focus on “automation and robotics” enabling them to immediately contribute to our growing industrial economy. The applied engineering program is currently hosted by the Engineering Fundamentals Department.
