Scott Bader.com

Office

Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

Full Time

As our new Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, you’ll play a key role in keeping our production plant and services equipment running safely and efficiently. You’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance, support small projects linked to new equipment, and provide standby cover outside normal working hours when needed — helping the business stay safe, compliant, and cost-effective.

This role is an essential part of our operations team, supporting the manufacture of Polymer and Polyester products using advanced pumping, mixing, blending, and heating technologies. As you develop your knowledge of these processes, you’ll be able to respond quickly to breakdowns, deliver planned maintenance to meet safety standards, and drive improvements that enhance efficiency across the plant.

Some Of Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all production plant and services equipment to a planned maintenance schedule and respond to corrective maintenance (breakdowns) in a timely manner.
  • Repair production and site equipment to minimise downtime and deliver plant modifications to support project and process changes.
  • Support site projects with your E&I expertise, including commissioning, documentation, installation, and testing of new equipment.
  • Use the CMMS (Ultimo) to log maintenance tasks and hours, communicate effectively with colleagues, and occasionally deputise for the line manager.
  • Follow Safe Systems of Work, procedures, and risk assessments to protect yourself, your colleagues, and the site.
  • Take part in a call-out rota (1 week in 3, plus shared holiday cover) to provide E&I support outside core hours, ensuring the plant runs safely and efficiently. Each rota period runs for 7 days, starting on a Friday.

What do I need to be successful in this role?

  • City and Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in electrically biased engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, such as LV motors and distribution, process instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature), basic PLCs, and pneumatic actuators.
  • Able to prioritise and organise a busy workload, adapting to changing business needs.
  • Clear and confident communicator with strong negotiation skills, engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness to learn, including use of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Petrochemical site experience, with knowledge and training in hazardous area equipment maintenance and inspections (ATEX), is advantageous.

What’s in it for me?

  • A competitive salary alongside inclusion into our company bonus scheme. Our Group Staff Bonus & Profit Performance Pay bonus scheme reinforces the Scott Bader principle of working together for a common goal and sharing in our successes.
  • Enhanced employer pension contribution whereby Scott Bader will contribute a maximum of 2x your contribution, up to a maximum of 10%.
  • Private medical insurance alongside a host of further discounts and employee benefit schemes
  • 25 days annual leave entitlement plus Bank Holidays – We also offer the opportunity to purchase an additional 5 day’s annual leave in case you need a couple of extra days.
  • We offer all our employees one full day per year to complete volunteering work of your choice which is fully paid. Alongside this, if you are thinking about fundraising for your favourite charity or local community event, we will happily match the funds that you have raised up to a maximum of £1000 in any one year.
  • Our Head Office sits within 44 acres of Northamptonshire countryside, nestled within the village of Wollaston. Access to free onsite car parking, electric car charging points, discounted cafeteria and even an onsite swimming pool.
