The Department of Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine is recruiting a Division Chief of Hospital Medicine for an academic appointment as Clinical Associate or Clinical Professor in the Clinician Educator Line or as Associate or Professor of Medicine in the University Medical Line at Stanford University School of Medicine.  The Chief is expected to lead the research, clinical and educational activities of the Division.  We are seeking a candidate who combines proven leadership skills with an outstanding record of academic accomplishment; dedication to excellence in the clinical, research and educational missions; an understanding of the complexity of academic medicine; and the creative vision to expand and maintain a premier Division of Hospital Medicine.  Established and emerging leaders in the field are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be accomplished physicians with a national/ international reputation in clinical or translational investigation and/or administration.  Candidates should hold a MD or MD/PhD degrees or equivalent, and be Board Certified in Internal Medicine.  Candidates will need to possess or be willing to obtain a California Medical License.  The Chief will be expected to recruit additional faculty to support clinical research, and to expand the clinical enterprise. 

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.  The predominant criteria for appointment in the Clinician Educator line is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administration and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

  • Associate Professor - $304,000 - $317,000
  • Full Professor - $327,000 - $370,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation indepartmental incentive compensation programs.
