Position, Department: Adjunct Professor Interior Design, Academic Affairs

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs

Pay Range:  AJCR $1,208-$1,344 per credit hour and in accordance with the adjunct table and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Teach 1–9 credit hours per semester in the Interior Design program. Primary teaching needs are Interior Design I, Interior Design Software I, and Interior Design Software II. Additional assignments may include other Interior Design courses depending on program need and candidate expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Teach course content, facilitate labs, assess student learning, and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain an inclusive, student-centered classroom aligned with department and college outcomes.
  • Use the college learning management system (Canvas) for assignments, grading, and communication.
  • Collaborate with program faculty on curriculum consistency and continuous improvement.
  • Required Qualifications/Skills (aligned to Interior Design I; Interior Design Software I–II)
  • Design Foundations (Interior Design I): Ability to teach elements & principles of design, color theory, basic hand drafting and space planning, introductory design process, and professional visual/verbal presentation skills.
  • CAD & Industry Software (Interior Design Software I): Proficiency teaching interior-design CAD workflows to produce floor plans, orthographic views, and perspectives.
  • Kitchen & Bath Software (Interior Design Software II): Proficiency teaching 2020/Design Flex to develop functional plans and perspectives; familiarity with Chief Architect for residential visualization/documentation.
  • Strong written and oral communication; ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Education/Experience: Minimum associate’s degree in Interior Design or related field and 5+ years of relevant industry experience (or equivalent combination of education and professional experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability and interest to teach one or more of: Materials & Resources, Design Communication, Practices & Procedures, Interior Design III, Project Management for Interior Designers.
  • Bachelor’s or higher in Interior Design or related field.
  • Professional credentials: NCIDQ, AKBD, LEED AP/WELL AP, or related.
  • Proficiency with Adobe (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign).
  • Experience with Canvas or similar LMS; experience teaching in community-college settings and working effectively with diverse learners.
