Senior Financial Analyst – Capital and Treasury
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Financial Analyst – Capital and Treasury, together with the Finance team, are dedicated to ensuring the financial health and sustainability of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton along with providing accurate and informative financial reporting and analysis.
Reporting to the Manager, Capital, Treasury and Special Projects, the Senior Financial Analyst – Capital and Treasury will be involved with the financial budgeting, accounting, tracking, forecasting and reporting for capital assets as well as the financial management, administration, and accounting of SJHH’s investment and debt portfolios while working within hospital policies and procedures. This will also include providing financial advice, reporting and analysis on major capital projects. This role will also support the St. Joseph’s Health System as opportunities for further integration are explored.
Responsibilities:
- Financial reporting, accounting and tracking for the lifecycle of capital assets.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement reporting.
- Financial forecasting, planning and budgeting with a focus on capital and treasury functions.
- Reporting and advising on aspects of major capital projects, liaising with stakeholders including project managers as well as government and financial institutions.
- Participate in the year-end external audit of the Hospital's accounting systems and records, including the preparation of working papers and the processing of year-end journal entries.
- Assist Manager in ensuring accounting controls and practices are in compliance with Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS), Public Sector Accounting Standards and other regulatory requirements.
- Support the SJHH Capital Committee and Investment Monitoring Committee, and any other Committees and/or Working Groups, as required.
- Provide financial accounting knowledge and expertise as needed, including recommending process improvements where necessary.
- Provide advice and guidance to departments in support of hospital related accounting policies, processes and practices.
- Support Financial Systems projects and help strengthen the effectiveness of the business processes and controls, thereby contributing to the overall success of the initiatives.
- Ad hoc assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance is required.
- Professional membership with Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and/or Advanced Business Degree is required.
- Minimum 5 years related experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Prior experience with Workday is preferred..
- Prior experience with capital and treasury functions is preferred.
- Strong accounting knowledge, finance and analytical skills required.
- Experience in analyzing financial and related data to identify trends and relationships.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and manage projects, specifically with processes and system integrations is preferred.
- Experienced in performing financial statement analysis.
- Ability to work within changing and tight timelines.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills coupled with a desire and ability to be an effective team player
- Experience and understanding of Ministry of Health and/or Ontario Health regulations and reporting requirements (including OHRS guidelines) is preferred.
