Fortrea is seeking an experienced EHS & Environmental Sustainability Expert to lead and manage environmental, health and safety programs while driving our sustainability strategy, with a strong focus on climate and carbon initiatives. This is an individual contributor role with a dual focus on EHS operations and on sustainability and climate-related tasks. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, self-motivated professional with deep knowledge of EMEA EHS regulations, EU and local country compliance requirements and a strong passion for environmental responsibility.
A consulting background is highly desirable, particularly for individuals experienced in navigating complex stakeholder environments. Candidates must possess exceptional problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills and a demonstrated capacity for self-learning and quick adaptation.
Above all, experience with climate and carbon initiatives is essential. If direct experience is limited, candidates must exhibit a strong interest in carbon accounting and sustainability data and be able to learn quickly.
Key Responsibilities:
Ehs Program Management
- Lead and administer EHS programs that comply with EU and local country laws, international standards, and internal company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and site audits; implement corrective and preventive actions as needed.
- Develop and deliver EHS training to increase employee safety awareness.
- Monitor regional injury and employee concerns; collaborate with HR and compensation teams to address and resolve incidents.
Safety Culture & Emergency Preparedness
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Serve as an advisor during emergencies including fires, chemical incidents, medical emergencies, and public health crises.
Sustainability & ESG Integration
- Drive climate and sustainability initiatives, with a focus on carbon data collection, analysis, and disclosure.
- Support Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions reporting in collaboration with Facilities, Sourcing, and Reporting teams.
- Contribute to external ESG disclosures (e.g., EcoVadis, CDP, UNGC).
Stakeholder Engagement
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) related to sustainability and EHS, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
- Work closely with Client Alliance and Business Development teams to support customer sustainability initiatives and represent Fortrea in client sustainability meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS and/or sustainability roles, preferably within global or multi-site organizations.
- Proven expertise in EU and EMEA environmental and safety regulations.
- Strong familiarity with ISO 14001/45001 and GHG Protocol standards.
- Demonstrated experience in carbon accounting and reporting (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis).
- Ability to work independently, lead projects, and influence stakeholders without direct reporting lines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in environmental or sustainability consulting.
- Certifications such as ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, LEED, or GHG Protocol.
- Experience managing RFIs, ESG ratings, and regulatory disclosures.

Work Environment & Travel:
- General office environment; hybrid or remote options may be considered depending on location.
- Must reside within EMEA (Poland or Bulgaria)
- Occasional travel required (up to 10%).
