Role Summary

The Senior Accountant (Ops & Finance) is a hybrid role bridging finance and operations. This position ensures revenue accuracy, payroll compliance, and incentive compensation integrity while supporting daily/weekly/monthly reconciliations. The Senior Accountant serves as a process builder and accountability partner, working closely with People Ops, Operations Managers, and Finance leadership.

This role is ideal for a Staff Accountant or Supervisor-level candidate ready to step into a Senior Accountant title, with strong technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue & Accounts Receivable

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations (banks, AR, Salesforce vs. Open Dental).
  • Manage in-house financing records; ensure follow-up by Guides/OMs (audit, not collections).
  • Spot discrepancies early and hold teams accountable to closing them.

Payroll Support

  • Partner with People Ops to review pay codes, overtime, and meal premiums.
  • Manage payroll tax setup and collaborate with HR in compliance with new states.
  • Review payroll inputs for accuracy; escalate issues before final processing.

Compensation & Bonus Calculations

  • Calculate and validate doctor pay, guide bonuses, and co-managed care payments.
  • Ensure bonus and comp calculations tie to source data and are approved before processing.
  • Deliver accurate, timely outputs that build trust with providers and staff.

Reimbursements & Expense Oversight

  • Review and approve/reject employee reimbursements (travel, mileage, expenses).
  • Spot-audit travel and expense requests for compliance with policy.
  • Partner with Office Managers and Sales Leaders to ensure accountability for expense management.

System & Process Development

  • Build and refine scalable accounting processes (Salesforce, Rippling, Open Dental integrations).
  • Audit data flows between Ops and Finance to prevent month-end rework.
  • Document SOPs for recurring financial tasks and train Ops partners on compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience (Staff Accountant, Supervisor, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; comfortable with reconciliations and incentive comp calculations.
  • Prior experience in multi-entity organizations or dental/healthcare finance (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to interact with operations leaders, sales teams, and providers.
  • California payroll experience required and Multi-state payroll experience strongly preferred.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Resourceful and solution-oriented; able to troubleshoot broken processes.
  • Comfortable in both “big picture” financial strategy and hands-on daily accounting tasks.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

SHHERPA Core Values in Action

  • Servant Leadership: Support Ops & People teams by eliminating financial chaos.
  • Humility: Own mistakes, learn fast, and improve processes.
  • Hospitalian: Build trust with OMs, Guides, and providers by being approachable and helpful.
  • Extreme Ownership: Take full responsibility for reconciliations, bonuses, and payroll accuracy.
  • Radical Candor: Communicate discrepancies clearly, balancing accuracy with empathy.
  • Passionate Discontent: Always ask, “How can this be easier, faster, better?”
  • Abundance Mindset: Share financial knowledge generously, and celebrate team wins loudly.
