Summary
A Research Associate position is available with Baylor College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics at the Center for Advanced Innate Cell Therapy within the Texas Children's Cancer Center. This researcher will be part of an interdisciplinary team of laboratory and clinical investigators developing novel forms of cancer immunotherapy. We offer outstanding state-of-the-art, recently expanded laboratory facilities, a highly interactive team work environment and an individualized approach to career development. The Research Associate will test human and murine NKT cells engineered to express tumor-specific receptors for anti-tumor potency using in vitro and in vivo experimental models. The ideal candidate will have experience with tissue processing methods, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent analysis as well innovative techniques for in vitro 3D-culture systems to study immune cell intersection with tumor cells in conditions mimicking tumor microenvironment in vivo. The project is expected to lead to publications in high quality scientific journals as well as initiation of clinical trials in cancer patients.
Job Duties
- Design and conduct experiments independently.
- Process human and murine tumor tissues for downstream applications, including IHC, IF, since-cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics.
- Develop and optimize 3D-culture systems to study immune cell intersection with tumor and other cells of tumor microenvironment using immunofluorescence imaging.
- Perform immunoflourescent staining of cells in suspension and perform flow cytometry analysis.
- Measure cell-mediated cytotoxicity and cytokine production.
- Document results of experiments and prepare reports.
- Write scientific manuscripts.
- Mentor and train junior lab members (e.g. research technicians and students).
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
- Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in biomedical sciences
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn in a fast-pace, collaborative environment
- Strong organizational skills, record keeping, and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written)
