Staff Licensed Practical Nurse (Lpn)

Job Summary

The Clinic LPN is responsible for the professional nursing care of all assigned patients in accordance with established standards of care and within the scope of the current Nurse Practice Act.  The LPN is responsible for meeting the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional needs of the patients assigned to her care.  The LPN collaborates, delegates, and coordinates with Clinic staff and physicians, as well as other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care.  The LPN maintains the safety, dignity, and privacy of the patient at all times.   The LPN participates in the Performance Improvement activities of the clinic that demonstrate positive patient outcomes.  The LPN supports the mission of OCH Regional Medical Clinic.  

Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and current LPN licensure by the Mississippi Board of Nursing
  2. Ability to pass competencies for the Staff LPN including a satisfactory orientation period
  3. Proficient oral and written communication skills
  4. Proficient interpersonal skills
  5. Maintains CPR certification

Lines Of Responsibility

 The Staff LPN is responsible to the Physician → Chief Nursing Officer → and continuing on through the OCH Chain of Command.  

 The Staff LPN supervises the work of Aides/Techs, and Environmental Services.  

Physical Demands

Note: Occasionally = 1% - 33% of the workday; Frequent= 34% - 66%; Continuous = 67% -100%.  This may also be described as performance once every 3 minutes = Occasional; once every 1½-3 minutes = Frequent; once every 1½ minutes to continuous work = Continuous.  

  1. Sitting – Frequent; The LPN is required at times to sit at various desks for charting (electronic and paper), in-services, telephone calls, and filing.
  2. Standing/Walking - Continuous; the nurse is on their feet taking requests to departments, etc.
  3. Bending - Occasional; obtaining, organizing, and restocking desk supplies.
  4. Push/Pull - Occasional; Assisting with patient transportation if necessary, pushing down on hole punchers, etc.
  5. Climbing/Reaching – Occasional; Obtaining and storing supplies. Reaching for medical records, etc.  
  6. Handling/Lifting – 0-50 pounds (frequent), 50-100 pounds (occasional) the nurse may also need to lift/help lift and help handle objects 1-300 pounds. Assistance in moving patients and push/pull activity is occasionally done.   The nurse should always ask for assistance to lift/pull heavy objects and/or lifting heavy patients.  He/she should never attempt to lift or pull a heavy object or patient without calling for assistance.   
  7. Hands – Simple grasp - Continuous

         Firm grasp – Frequent 

         Fine manipulation - Frequent    

         Both fine and gross motor skills are needed in areas such as writing, filing, answering or dialing a telephone. 

  •       8.Feet - Standing and walking – Frequent to Continuous      
  •       9. Speaking, Hearing, Seeing – Continuous
  •           Speaking – Must be able to communicate verbally with co-workers, patients and visitors 
  •           Hearing – With or without correction 
  •           Seeing – With or without correction 

Patient Population

 The patient population for the Clinic ranges from 2-3 days old to over 90 years of age.
