We are looking for a Software Engineer to take our Lending product to the next level by designing and implementing a variety of impactful features. In this role, you’ll work with Golang and React services that handle high-volume, data-intensive workloads, building resilient and scalable asynchronous processing pipelines. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on millions of merchants while working on complex, cutting-edge engineering challenges.

What You'Ll Do:

• Develop and maintain backend services that power SumUp’s Lending product, focusing on credit risk assessment.
• Design, implement, and optimize algorithms to evaluate loan applications and support fast, data-driven lending decisions.
• Handle large volumes of transactional and behavioral data, building resilient, scalable, and asynchronous processing pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, credit analysts, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements and customer needs into effective backend solutions.
• Ensure high code quality and system reliability, including testing, validation, and monitoring of critical services.
• Contribute to system architecture and design with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance, while adhering to engineering best practices.
• Document technical decisions and workflows to support knowledge sharing across teams and maintain transparency in the lending platform.

You’ll be great for this role if you have:

• Experience with backend development, preferably in Golang or similar languages, and in building high-volume, data-intensive systems.
• Experience designing and implementing algorithms for complex business logic, ideally in areas such as credit risk, financial services, or lending.
• A flexible mindset and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-moving environment and navigate complex domains. You are a quick learner with a proven ability to pick up new skills and concepts swiftly.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and data scientists.
• A natural drive to improve things—you are always looking to make systems and processes better. You strive for great solutions but also know when to be pragmatic.
• Confidence in asking for help or using available tools (like search engines or AI assistants) when something is beyond your grasp.
• Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written. As part of a globally distributed team, clear and respectful communication is essential.
