About The Role
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN will be expected to demonstrate clinical knowledge required for the work responsibility as described and provide patient and family centered care in a compassionate manner. Must demonstrate exceptional communication skills.The Gyn-Oncology APN utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety of gynecologic or oncologic diseases. The APN practice will promote wellness through conducting research, providing education and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants.Responsibilities
What You’Ll Do
- Works collaboratively with the division of Gyn-Oncology to provide comprehensive care to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The APN will primarily provide outpatient consultation, evaluating all new consults in accordance with the level of clinical care expected for consultation, discuss and further evaluate the case with the covering attending on call, write a consultation report, and communicate effectively, the recommendations to the requesting team.
- Manages daily caseload of GYN patients requiring routine cancer screenings, chemotherapy counselling and care.
- May provide coverage for the Infusion Suite for patients being treated with chemotherapy.
- Provides consultative services and collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family, and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected and interpreted.
- Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit.
- Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to cancer and its treatment.
- In collaboration with the physician, critically analyzes the assessment data/diagnostic tests and determines a diagnosis. In addition, develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions of treatments to attain outcomes.
Qualifications
What You’Ll Bring
Required:
- A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required.
- Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body.
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in an inpatient hospital setting and current BLS certification are required
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/ONCC Provider Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate preferred.
- Participation in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations preferred.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential.
Preferred:
- ACLS preferred
- Strong assessment skills of the medical surgical patient and/or oncology patient preferred.
Credential Required:
- Current NJ License and Registration; Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse, by the Board of Nursing, with specialization as indicated

Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is UD/07S: $136,294 - $165,416.00 - $186,385.00 in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
