Job Description:
Purpose
The incumbent will serve in a coordinating and leadership role, providing technical guidance and expertise on all Smelter mobile equipment to ensure maximum equipment availability through continuous improvement and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Equipment includes:
- Kress Slag Pot Carriers, Komatsu W500-6R, Volvo Excavators, Volvo and Bell ADTs, Liebherr Dozers, TCM Forklifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, financial, and HR policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections to a high standard, identifying and addressing defects proactively to prevent failures.
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities using Pronto ERP, ensuring timely execution of defect repairs.
- Support the development and achievement of departmental KPIs, aligning with company objectives and strategic plans.
- Monitor and optimize mechanical spare parts inventory, minimizing the risk of operational downtime due to equipment or component failure.
- Ensure environmental controls are considered during inspections and maintenance activities (planned and unplanned).
- Champion the effective use of Pronto ERP for accurate work order costing and maintenance tracking.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to Supervisors and the HER Team, ensuring clear understanding of priorities and effective team direction.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, identify and develop talent, and provide ongoing coaching and counseling to support career growth.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Minimum Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, with a Craft Certificate in Diesel Mechanics from a recognized institution.
- Specialized training from OEMs such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, etc.
- Proficiency in specialized diagnostic software including Prosis, Caterpillar ET, Lidos, Sculli, and IQANRun.
- Demonstrated leadership and team development skills, with experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in the mining industry.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
