The Head of Business Operations AM&D is a strategic partner to the BU President and senior leadership team, responsible for driving organizational efficiency, aligning cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring execution of strategic priorities. This leader oversees the Program Management Office for the BU with the main objective of driving the success of critical business programs that are linked to the overall business strategy. This role also drives Business Excellence processes across the organization. This role is a key member of our leadership team and reports into our BU President and partners across our business.
Key Responsibilities
Serves as strategic partner to Business Unit Leader and peers in the BU leadership team.
- Facilitates collaboration across the leadership team to drive execution and resolve program roadblocks, prepare program trade-offs, define operational plans for strategic imperatives and drive continuous improvement.
- Identifies structural issues and opportunities for improvement in the E2E organization via the program axis.
- Serves as a strategic liaison for the Connected Care organization on behalf of the BU and BU President
Leads the business Project Management Office (PMO), including oversight of the PMO team.
- Translates agreed portfolio priorities into operational deliverables and goals, oversees the identification of needed resources for projects (including defining and assigning major project roles, budget and costs), and exerts influence to ensure successful completion of projects, across functional leaders including Product, Marketing, R&D, and regional business units.
- Ensures visibility to capacity, execution, and resource utilization to inform start/stop/continue decision making on portfolio. Drives opportunity identification for cross portfolio leverage and streamlining efforts.
- Monitors the program/project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with internal stakeholders and customers, and reports on and analyses progress and outcomes. Is responsible for ensuring compliance with and continuous improvement of relevant internal policies, procedures, and standards.
Finalizes the set-up of the BU AM&D PMO organization across Innovation, Business Excellence and Business programs, including a ‘project support office’, as part of post-merger integrations. End state is a PMO that:
- Manages all programs requiring cross-functional resources.
- Streamlined core PMO processes across legacy businesses.
- Aligned core capabilities and KPIs with business objectives.
Leads the operational “quarterly drumbeat” for program performance management with Cross-functional Business Unit leadership.
- Works with program- and project leaders to ensure up-to-date plans to deliver on time, cost and quality. Additionally, facilitates the escalations outside the control of the program teams and informs key stakeholders on status of the program.
- Chair of weekly and monthly project escalation, review, and prioritization meetings. Head of PMO ensures escalations will be managed up to the level of Business Leadership
- Supports Head of Portfolio in preparation and execution of Quarterly Portfolio Business Review. Ensures preparation and maintenance of the project portfolio.
- Drive the E2E Resource and Budget planning and tracking cycle (eg, AOP, RoFo). Responsible for ‘budget to plan’ and project staffing levels.
- Stakeholder reporting on Business Unit and Business Level in performance reviews.
Leads continuous improvement of core processes and tools, responsible for
- Definition and implementation of PMO related business processes as part of post-merger integration in Philips (eg PDLM as gated development process). Deployed to the E2E organization.
- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of portfolio, program, and project tooling for resource and financial ‘planning and tracking’ and standardized reporting. Deployed to the E2E organization.
- Applying Lean and Agile approaches to day-to-day PMO operations. Drives a culture of LEAN product development, process development and business operations.
- Driving a strong culture of patient safety and quality.
Manages the PMO team as the functional leader, responsibilities covering:
- Enabling a culture of impact with care via talent hiring and performance management.
- Coaches and mentors’ program- and project managers on behaviors, stakeholder management, and key PMO capabilities to ensure programs meet business objectives (time, cost, quality).
- Chairs PMO functional meetings to define and execute PMO excellence programs and promote teamwork and collaboration.
- Continuous improvement initiatives on core PMO capabilities eg; planning, risk management, issue management, budgeting.
Drives Business Excellence across AM&D
- Leads the development of the Business Excellence strategy of the BU and Functions including selection of targets and priority setting between programs when needed.
- Drives a culture of LEAN business operations (problem solving, daily management and kaizens), in collaboration with all peers in the BU management team.
- Supports KPI deployment from Philips to Business Monitoring to Business Unit AM&D. Facilitates target setting in line with Business ambitions.
- Leads the definition of the overall business operating cycle. Ensures that standard work is applied for performance reporting to various levels of management (Business and Exco).
You'Re The Right Fit If:
- Completed Bachelor’s in relevant field of study, Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of project management experience with LEAN certification
- Understanding of operational processes in all cross-functions to be able to facilitate and drive effective PMO processes. Experienced in collaborating with cross-functions in BU management teams.
- Experienced in cross functional project and program management and leading or participating in business portfolio planning cycles
- Budget, cost and profitability management skills
- Knowledge of the Business ‘drumbeat’ – Business Planning Cycles (AOP), Operating Models and corporate KPI’s
- For New Product Introduction Programs (NPI) – affinity and knowledge of R&D, Supply Chain, Regulatory and Quality capabilities (having worked in any of these domains)
- Highly skilled at collaboration within complex, matrix business environment with demonstrated track-record of successful outcomes when working with cross-functional / multi-national / multi-cultural teams
- Having dealt with stakeholder management, reporting and communication to various levels of management, up to Executive Committee
- Understanding of and insights in global regulations of medical devices and medical services
- Understanding of global healthcare systems and their challenges in the domain of Cardiac Clinical Services and Operational Effectiveness
