The Opportunity
Join BCI's Financial Reporting team in a dynamic role where you'll ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements for one of Canada's largest institutional investors. This is an excellent opportunity for accounting professionals to work with diverse asset classes including public equities, fixed income, and private markets while collaborating with investment teams, external auditors, and senior leadership. We're hiring at both Analyst and Senior Analyst levels, offering career progression within a team that values continuous improvement, technical excellence, and professional development. This is a one year-fixed term role located in our downtown Victoria, BC office.
Who You Will Work With
The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuations, as well as financial statements and financial reporting to our clients. The team also leads BCI's budgeting process, tax structuring and tax compliance, finance client engagement, finance operations, procurement, and investment performance and analytics. Working with our internal business partners, auditors and external advisors, the Finance department strives to be a trusted advisor to our internal and external clients by providing timely, accurate, and relevant financial information and analysis.
Financial Reporting & Valuations is made up of two teams, Financial Reporting and Valuations who combined are responsible for the daily price verification for Fixed Income and Public Equity securities as well as the quarterly and year-end valuation processes for BCI's private market investment portfolio, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Credit. The branch also resolves IFRS accounting and valuation issues across all asset classes, prepares annual financial statements for BCI programs, pooled funds, and Combined Funds, and reports and presents financial, carbon, and valuation information to BCI's Valuation Committee and Board and Board-related committees.
What You Bring
Analyst Level Requirements:
Must Have:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA; CPA, CGA; CPA, CMA) OR two to three years accounting experience with interest in pursuing a CPA accounting designation
- A basic knowledge of securities markets and investment accounting
- Excellent interpersonal abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to plan assigned workload to meet strict deadlines
- Advanced level Excel skills
Senior Analyst Level Requirements:
Must Have:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA; CPA, CGA; CPA, CMA)
- At least three years of relevant accounting experience
- Experience in securities markets and investment accounting
- Excellent interpersonal abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to plan assigned workload to meet strict deadlines
- Advanced level Excel skills and current experience with an industry standard accounting platform
Preferred (Both Levels):
- Previous experience in a client-facing role
- Previous audit experience, in particular with IFRS
- Previous experience preparing audited financial statements
- For Senior Analyst: Broad understanding of analytical tools and programming languages, including but not limited to Excel VBA, Tableau, PowerBI, and Python
What You Will Do
- Both Analyst and Senior Analyst positions will:
- Assist with the timely, complete, and accurate preparation of financial statements as well as BCI's portfolio carbon footprint and other internally and externally reported financial information
- Assist with facilitating external auditor engagements; includes responding to auditor queries and providing applicable supporting audit evidence
- Prepare financial reporting analysis in accordance with IFRS to conclude on accounting issues for new investments and structures
- Support the timely, complete, and accurate preparation of BCI's portfolio carbon footprint as required
- Research new accounting standards that impact financial instruments and make recommendations on accounting policy changes
- Communicate with asset classes, external auditors, and other departments to resolve issues
- Assist with the assessment and documentation of procedures and processes to support effective internal controls over financial reporting
- Assist in maintaining BCI's financial reporting software, Workiva, and associated work papers, including updating table mappings and queries as needed to support accurate reporting
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities For Senior Analyst:
- Work under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, and lead junior team members with various projects
- Act as financial reporting subject matter expert in working with Business Support Analysts to develop requirements and test solutions within the SimCorp Dimension testing and production environments
- Provide training and assistance to other staff members as required
Analyst Responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, and senior team members to assist with various projects
Where You Will Work
This role is based in our downtown Victoria, BC office. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
Salary Range
The annualized base salary range for the Analyst role is CAD $77,000 to $93,000. For the Sr. Analyst role, the range is $90,000 to $109,000.

The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
