Purpose And Scope:
The Pharmacist Supervisor oversees daily activities to maximize the efficacy and efficiency of operations within the assigned function(s). The Pharmacist Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert (SME) by representing the assigned function(s) through diverse customer interactions and may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities:
- Supervise the daily operations of the Pharmacy Technician team, including but not limited to establishing mutual goals, assigning tasks and maintaining schedules.
- Monitors daily operations of a unit or sub-unit. A portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the unit or sub-unit.
- Supervises/directs daily operations of subordinates to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies. Provides immediate supervision of a unit or group of employees, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals, and maintaining schedules.
- Technically proficient in the Pharmacy department. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility.
- Review and monitor drug therapies for drug interactions, allergies and contraindications.
- Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
- Ensure accuracy of all prescriptions by checking all orders, identify any inconsistencies and initiate appropriate action.
- Obtain all licenses required for shipment of Rx products in coordination with Regulatory Affairs.
- Maintain all required files including prescription files, patient files and profiles.
- Provide clinical consultations to internal personnel regarding medication for drug interactions, side effects and dosage.
- Maintain continuous knowledge with all current pharmacy practices and new drugs by participating in continuing education programs as required by each state board of pharmacy. Keep up with all company regulatory standards and policies.
- Provide pharmacy coverage with daily schedules, vacation schedules and call-offs due to illness during pharmacy business hours.
- Ensure all employees within the assigned team(s) understand and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations; establishing and maintaining effective internal systems and controls to promote compliance.
- Provide direct supervision of the Pharmacy Technician team through ongoing leadership and guidance; partnering with Human Resources on employee matters.
- Works on issues of limited scope; follows established practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Has a limited range - local within the department.
- Receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Role primarily focuses on tactical execution of routine situations.
- Responsible for hiring, coaching and counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations.
- Interacts daily with Pharmacy Technicians. Interaction normally involves the exchange or presentation of factual information.
- Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Travel is required for this position 10-15%.
- Serve as after-hours/on-call pharmacist for counseling.
Supervision:
- May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Pharmacy staff.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Advanced Degree desirable.
Experience And Required Skills:
- 2 - 3 years' related experience as a Pharmacist; and 1 - 3 years' experience as a Supervisor.
- Must be willing to secure jurisprudence in individual states which require separate pharmacy licenses before granting reciprocity with their state on an as needed basis.
- Strong computer skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- In-depth knowledge of pharmacy laws for Rx drugs and devices.
