Job Description
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Implement and maintain HSE management systems, review the GAP process and ensuring timely closure of corrective actions.
- Advise the plant leadership team on any updates or changes to applicable regulations and standards, maintaining high focus on the Brambles Absolute Safety First Rules
- Maintain focus on the emergency protocols and ensure full compliance. Oversee the day-to-day HSE activities of direct reports, ensuring performance goals are achieved and compliance maintained.
- Coordinate and drive improvement and action plans to meet compliance targets.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through active leadership empowering colleagues to participate in Safety First discussions in plant meetings and leadership sessions, including Learning Teams, ensure Safety Differently ethos is understood and practiced within all sites.
- Monitor and review training activities to ensure adherence to safety standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead investigations for all incidents and significant near misses, ensuring lessons learned are communicated across the network. Continuously evaluate and improve plant-level HSE practices, sharing best practices and innovations across the network.
Major/Key Accountabilities
- Provide an environment where work-related health and safety risks are controlled to prevent injuries and occupational ill health.
- Comply with all legal and other applicable occupational health & safety requirements including internal processes such as:
- Lead and develop our Safety Differently philosophy across the whole site through HOP and Learning Teams.
- Ensure all employees, at every level of the organization understand and are committed to implementing CHEP’s Zero Harm policies and practices.
- Lead and monitor continuous improvement via systemic change based on data and root cause analysis of incidents, near misses and environmental occurrences.
- Lead and promote Zero Harm discussions across the plant, ensuring the participation of employees and the Plant Leadership team through monthly Zero harm meetings and participation in the regular Plant Leadership meetings.
- Develop employee occupational health & safety competencies through effective training across all levels of the plant. Measure and monitor competency levels by the introduction of a skills matrix and pro-active training plans.
- Lead and facilitate all root cause investigations on all incidents and serious near miss reports to prevent recurrence. Learn from these investigations and share good practice across the European/Global Plant network.
- Keep up to date with all internal and external health, safety & wellbeing legislation. Advise the Plant Leadership team of any changes to health & safety standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in our Zero Harm practices within the plant and across the network through good practice sharing.
- Lead our employee wellbeing initiatives across the sites including, safety week, occupational health assessments and other CHEP employee wellbeing initiatives.

Challenges/Problem Solving
Problem solving relates to the requirement in the role to analyze, reason and arrive at conclusions to solve problems. This can be range between routine and patterned (day-to-day within procedures) or more complex in nature requiring analytical and innovative solutions.
What You’Ll Need;
- Ideally, you’ll be at least IOSH qualified
- Good knowledge of relevant national Health, Safety & Wellbeing laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, to effectively engage and influence within the business at all levels
- Motivated individual and self-starter who can drive projects and take ownership for implementation of solutions.
- Good knowledge of HSE management systems
- Analytical skills to understand and interpret data
- Ability to work well under pressure whilst demonstrating strong organisational skills
