Graduate Assistant in Generative AI PedagogyThe Center for Engaged Pedagogy (CEP)  is looking for a Graduate Assistant who will support various projects in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in teaching and learning.

Job Description:

This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative environment to help strengthen Barnard’s deep academic engagement and support for student, faculty, and community wellbeing, contribute to the professional development of faculty, students, and staff in generative AI and help with the development of research in AI and STEM pedagogy.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Faculty Programming & Support

  • Develop and support programming for faculty on the integration of generative AI in classroom teaching and pedagogy.
  • Provide direct assistance to faculty during workshops and training sessions.
  • Facilitate online or hybrid sessions for faculty, ensuring smooth participation for both in-person and remote attendees.

2. Direct Student Engagement & Instruction

  • Lead and conduct workshops for students on the effective and ethical use of generative AI for learning.
  • Manage and host drop-in sessions to provide individualized student support on generative AI tools and applications.
  • Educate students on how generative AI can be applied to their specific academic work and skill development.

3. Administrative & Logistical Support

  • Handle the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of A/V equipment for events and workshops.
  • Manage event registration and attendee sign-in processes.
  • Create and prepare materials for events, such as name tags, handouts, and agendas.
  • 4. Content & Material Creation
  • Design and develop engaging visual materials to support programming, including: Presentation slides for workshops and seminars, Digital and print posters to promote events, Informational graphics and other visual aids.

5. Strategic Alignment

  • Ensure all activities, workshops, and materials are aligned with the strategic goals and vision of the college.
  • Stay current on trends and developments in generative AI to ensure programming remains relevant and forward-thinking.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with using Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DALL.E, especially in instructional settings.
  • Experience using Gen AI in pedagogy such as integrating GenAI in curriculum, teaching or assessment.
  • Prior experience or demonstrated interest in STEM or AI-related projects in educational settings.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI ethics and policy.

Position Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Gen AI tools and frameworks especially how they are used in education.
  • Experience preparing instructional materials and conducting workshops.
  • Ability to test and evaluate various AI tools and platforms used in education.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

To Qualify:

Must be currently enrolled in a graduate-level program in education, computer science or related fields.

Pay Rate: $32.5/hour.; 10 hours a week on average

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
