The role – what you’ll do
Barr is seeking a water resources engineer to join our Minneapolis team. In this hybrid role, you will undertake challenging work on projects related to hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, civil engineering, and related technical activities. Additional responsibilities may include field assignments such as construction observation, surveying, and collecting hydrologic or water-quality measurements. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.
A successful person in this role will demonstrate strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite applications; strong written and oral presentation skills; the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a project team; and a flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
Your impact – key responsibilities
- Technical analysis: stormwater planning and hydrologic runoff analysis.
- Modeling support: hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, usage of CADD and GIS.
- Design support: open channel and pipe flow design, water control and stormwater treatment structure design, and completion of plans and specifications.
About The Opportunity
- Compensation: anticipated range of $70,000–80,000/year. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.
- Work environment: ability to work in locations that include rough terrain typical of construction/manufacturing/rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
About you – required core competencies
- Education: bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering degree with an emphasis on water resources.
- Software: experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, CADD, or GIS software.
- Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Helpful additional experience (not required)
- Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related degree with an emphasis on water resources.
- Project design experience (e.g., stormwater management facility design, site and roadway design), including preparation of plans and specifications.
- Exposure to GIS, CADD, or other relevant programs.
