Location & Role Context
This position is based at the Ebara Elliott Energy Service Center in La Spezia, Italy. This facility is a vital part of the company's global service network, dedicated to providing expert aftermarket support. The La Spezia team performs the service, repair, overhaul, and re-rate of complex rotating equipment, ensuring maximum reliability and life span for customer assets across Europe and beyond. The Workshop Quality Engineer is a crucial position responsible for ensuring that all products undergoing service, repair, and overhaul within the La Spezia workshop meet stringent quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
Job Responsibilities
Quality Planning and Documentation
- Assist in the development and execution of Quality Plans and component-specific inspection plans to ensure compliance throughout the repair and overhaul lifecycle.
- Draft, review, and assemble essential Quality Documentation, specifically the Quality Assurance Manufacturing Data Records (QA MDRs), to support Elliott Company and industry quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive Quality documentation for all serviced products and projects, ensuring accurate and accessible records.
- Develop and implement Quality Control Work Instructions (WCIs) for various processes and inspections within the workshop.
Inspection, Testing, and Compliance
- Perform thorough visual, dimensional, and functional inspections and testing in accordance with documented policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: incoming material inspections and component verification; in-process inspections during tear-down, repair, and assembly; final product inspections and acceptance testing; and supplier and sub-supplier site inspections as required.
- Serve as the primary Quality support during critical Inspection Tests (ITs) and customer witness points, ensuring all procedures are followed and documented.
- Ensure the calibration and proper maintenance of all inspection and test equipment within the workshop.
- Record and maintain all inspection and test data accurately, providing traceability and documentation for all quality activities.
Non-Conformance and Continuous Improvement
- Issue and meticulously review Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), coordinating with relevant teams to manage deviations effectively.
- Provide active support with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for quality issues observed during service and repair.
- Assist with the development and effective implementation of Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) plans to eliminate recurrence of quality defects.
- Contribute to overall quality improvement efforts and action plans to enhance service efficiency and product reliability.
Internal and External Coordination
- Coordinate all quality requirements and necessary documentation with internal Company departments (e.g., Engineering, Production, Supply Chain).
- Manage communication and quality requirements with suppliers, sub-suppliers, and customers, ensuring a clear understanding and adherence to specifications.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant technical field is required.
- Some prior experience in a manufacturing, service, or repair environment, preferably within the turbomachinery, oil & gas, or power generation sectors.
- Knowledge of industry standards and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Develop basic professional quality engineering skills and knowledge through continuous learning and practical application on the job.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Italian and English (highly desirable for coordination with local teams and global corporate functions).
