About The Role
As a Database Administrator (m/f/d) you will take ownership of our primary Oracle ExaCS environment. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our geo-distributed database infrastructure while leading consolidation efforts for our legacy Oracle databases. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, international team and contribute to the optimization of mission-critical financial systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the Oracle ExaCS database environment, including monitoring, tuning, backups, recovery, and high availability configurations.
- Administer Oracle Database features such as Data Guard and snapshot standby to support geo-distributed operations and development workflows.
- Leverage Exadata-specific expertise to optimize performance, storage, and resource utilization in a cloud-based setup.
- Lead the consolidation of on-premises and OCI VM-based Oracle databases into the ExaCS solution, minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to troubleshoot issues, implement best practices, and support data-driven applications.
- Provide occasional support for PostgreSQL environments as part of our hybrid database ecosystem.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle Database administration (version 19c or later), with deep knowledge of core administration tasks including installation, patching, performance tuning, and security management.
- Demonstrated experience with Oracle Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS), including deployment, configuration, and optimization in geo-distributed environments. Familiarity with Exadata hardware and software features (e.g., Smart Scan, HCC compression) is assumed.
- Strong working knowledge of Oracle Data Guard for real-time data replication and failover, including configuration and management of snapshot standby databases for development and testing.
- Experience consolidating Oracle databases from virtual machines (e.g., in OCI) to cloud-native solutions like ExaCS, with a focus on zero-downtime strategies, data migration tools (e.g., Data Pump, …), and post-migration validation.
- Proficiency in SQL/PL-SQL, shell scripting (Bash/Perl), and tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), RMAN, and AWR reports. Comfortable with Linux/Unix operating systems.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken, to communicate effectively within an international team; German language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Nice-To-Have Skills
- Familiarity with market data systems, high-volume transactional workloads, or compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, SOX) in a regulated industry.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) for database provisioning and CI/CD pipelines.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) in Database Administration, Exadata certifications, or equivalent.
