This position is part of Novanta’s Robotics & Automation business unit, including ATI Industrial Automation & Celera Motion-branded products. ATI is the world-leading engineering-based developer of robotic accessories and robot arm tooling, including Automatic Tool Changers, Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensing Systems, Utility Couplers, Material Removal Tools, Robotic Collision Sensors, Manual Tool Changers, and Compliance Devices. Our robot end-effector products are found in thousands of successful applications around the world.

This role is responsible for growing the use and application of F/T Sensors across Europe, with a focus on high-growth markets such as AI-Enabled Robotics, Humanoids, Warehouse Automation, and Surgical Robotics. The Commercial Development Engineer will work closely with OEMs, integrators, and end-users to identify opportunities, provide technical consultation, and drive growth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as an individual contributor to identify, diagnose, and deliver high-value sensor solutions.
  • Identify and monitor target markets, accounts, and competitive socket maps to support effective value-based sales strategies. 
  • Serve as the voice of the customer internally, ensuring their needs and expectations are clearly communicated. 
  • Build and maintain strong, sustainable customer relationships across the region. 
  • Provide first-level technical support and coordinate with internal teams to resolve customer issues. 
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and engineering teams to align product offerings with market needs. 
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Maintain clear and frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders through CRM entries, trip reports, and meeting documentation. 
  • Quantify and pursue opportunities with existing and new OEMs across current and emerging markets. 
  • Support escalations and high-severity customer issues as needed.

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies 

  • BA/BS degree in engineering or a technical field with relevant experience in electromechanical sales or applications engineering. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical sales or customer-facing engineering roles. 
  • Strong communication and influence skills across all organizational levels. 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships. 
  • Technical understanding of robotic platforms, architecture, and interfacing. 
  • Experience in diagnosing and designing technical solutions aligned with customer needs.  
  • Proficiency in prospecting, lead management, and CRM tools. 
  • Willingness to travel across Europe (30–50%).
