The Furman University Libraries seek a Web Content Specialist for a newly created position. The library is undertaking a comprehensive reorganization of its website, including governance, content, and functionality. This role is central to the success of that project and to the ongoing management of the library’s web presence. The successful candidate will draw on their technical expertise, organizational skills, initiative, and collaborative approach to support the creation of a user-friendly and intuitive website. Most of this work will take place within the LibGuides CMS platform and other LibApps products including LibAnswers, LibCal, and LibWizard. The position will also provide web content expertise and support for other library-specific platforms.Job Description:
Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains accessible web templates and branding for the following library-specific software: LibGuides CMS and other LibApps products, Primo, TIND, ILLiad, and WordPress.
- Maintains custom functionality in LibGuides CMS and other LibApps products using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, following accessibility best practices.
- Creates, organizes, and manages simple, intuitive, and accessible content on the library’s website.
- Collaborates with web content authors in other library divisions to ensure their content is managed appropriately.
- Chairs the library’s Web Advisory Group which meets monthly to discuss relevant website issues.
- Serves on the library's website improvement team, which draws on its expertise in content strategy, user experience design, and technical proficiency to enhance the library’s web presence.
- Conducts web content updates and data clean-up activities.
- Enables new web functionality for Primo, the library’s discovery layer, and TIND, the library’s digital collections platform.
- Collaborates with library colleagues to develop and/or support digital exhibit websites.
- Manages Google Analytics for library platforms. Creates and manages Google Analytics dashboards.
- Pursues professional development by attending related conferences and webinars and staying current with emerging trends.
- Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into Library and University goals.
- Attends divisional and departmental meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- One year of recent experience authoring HTML and CSS.
- Excellent web-related problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative, and self-motivation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining a branded website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience creating or managing content in LibGuides CMS.
- Willingness to engage in appropriate training to serve as the library’s digital accessibility subject matter expert.
- Bachelor’s Degree.

Work Environment
- Work is performed in an office environment.
- Work may require flexible hours, on short notice, in response to emergencies.
- This job has the potential for a hybrid work schedule with up to 2 remote workdays per week. Approval for hybrid work will be evaluated in accordance with the University’s remote work policy after at least 6 months of full-time onsite work.
