We are looking to hire a MSAT Data Science and Analytics Associate Director​ to join the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) organization in Upper Merion. This is a site-based technical team responsible for ensuring manufacturing processes are capable, compliant and productive while maintaining product quality.  The site MSAT team is also responsible for delivering continuous improvements to the existing supply chains supported by UM Biopharm and working with global MSAT to execute technology transfers and implement process-related improvement programs across the product lifecycle. The Upper Merion MSAT team is also accountable for delivering data science and analytics solutions to improve business outcomes.

The MSAT Data Science and Analytics Associate Director will lead a team of data scientists and engineers to leverage data science and data analytics to provide business insights and solve complex technical and business problems. The team will leverage data as a key asset to accelerate technology transfer and CMC, drive continuous improvement in key business processes, reduce waste, and enhance knowledge management across the site. The team will coordinate with R&D colleagues engaged in technology transfer, manufacturing and technology groups involved in monitoring (CPV), comparability, and investigations, analytical teams involved in product, release, and stability testing, quality teams engaged in managing quality systems and quality data, and engineering groups responsible for process control, reliability, and robustness to build informatics solutions that meet the desired customer needs and user experiences. The team will develop and deploy novel digital models, tools, and visualizations and  be responsible for maintaining site databases, models, and infrastructure.

The MSAT Data Science and Analytics Associate Director will be expected to support technical development their organization, developing high performing data scientists and engineers. You will also be expected to manage within a matrix team to ensure key data and analytics needs are met across the site (i.e. production, quality, engineering) and to collaborate with stakeholders in global MSAT, tech, and R&D to drive implementation of novel data analytics tools and technologies into the commercial manufacturing space.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Serve as the leader for data science and analytics capabilities at Upper Merion. Accountable for development and deployment of the strategic data and analytics plan for the Upper Merion site, in collaboration with central digital and analytics teams, to meet the customer needs.
  • Leverage digital tools and solutions to drive business value and continuous improvement in technical or site systems and processes, including CMC (new product introduction and regulatory filing), technical (process monitoring and CPV, comparability, and investigations), site sustainability, manufacturing plant (engineering) performance and reliability, quality control release and stability date, and quality systems and data.
  • Maintain key site-based digital infrastructure, including models, databases, and software.
  • Lead a team of scientists and engineers to work collaboratively and efficiently to deliver the digital objectives. Support capability development of the MSAT team to learn/implement new analytical technologies and modeling systems.
  • Manages relationships with key internal (i.e. production, engineering, quality) and external (i.e. global MSAT team, IT, Tech, R&D) partners to deliver technical objectives and implementation of novel data and analytics platforms and technologies.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelors with a minimum of 8 years OR a Masters (MS) degree with a minimum of 5 years OR PhD with minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in data engineering, data science, computer science field or equivalent.
  • Experience in biopharmaceutical or vaccines technologies, research & development and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience in digital, data, and analytics techniques in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • In-depth experience with digital, data, and analytics techniques in the pharamaceutical industry. Familiarity and experience with relational databases, statistical softwares (i.e. SAS, SIMCA, JMP or WebStatistica), modeling and visualization softwares (i.e. Python, R, Matlab, , SQL, MS Power). Experience of developing or applying techniques such as pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, dimensionality reduction and model selection.
  • Experience with development and maintenance of digital infrastructure, including cloud architecture.
  • Experience with manufacturing / engineering environments including systems such as IP-21, M-ERP, LIMS, Aspen eBRs, is preferred.
  • Experience with industrialization or implementation of models in a GMP environment, including awareness of recent industry trends and requirements as they relate to data science or data validation.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex, technical problems with pace based on business needs and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to manage a technical team and cross-functional teams. Embraces a team-based culture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to present data science / statistical methods to non-statistical team members.
