Job Summary:
The Financial Reporting Accountant will be a key member of the Canada accounting team and will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of various monthly tasks and reports. This role will also be actively involved in the month-end closing process, supporting accounting team and other functional areas, and assisting with various special projects, as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
• Post bank entries daily/weekly.
• Post transactions such as accruals, reclasses, and FX revaluations as needed.
• Various Month-end closing processes - bank reconciliations, Balance Sheet account reconciliations and maintaining schedules, fixed asset schedules, cash reporting, labour entries, internal month-end reporting.
• Preparing Canadian sales and use tax (VAT) reporting monthly and communication with internal tax team to complete filings.
• Assisting with internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations.
• Oversee bi-weekly payroll in conjunction with internal payroll team.
• Support day-to-day financial administration working with Accounting Manager.
• Support payroll, AP, and other functional areas as required.
• Perform other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by management.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
• An understanding of accounting principles and standards, such as GAAP or IFRS.
• Attention to detail is crucial to ensure accuracy and prevent errors or discrepancies in financial information.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to identify the root cause of problems, propose solutions to corrective actions.
• Able to convey complex financial information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Able to work independently and with others, to contribute to team goals.
• Must maintain high ethical standards, meet confidentiality requirements, to ensure the security and privacy of financial data.
• Proficient in using accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial management tools.
• Proficient experience with Microsoft Excel: advanced spreadsheet skills required- including but not limited to Pivot Tables and Vlookup.
• Experience with ERP system environment and/or Business Intelligence (BI) tools.

Education/Certification/License Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field required.
Preferred Certifications:
• Certifications (CPA) or working towards CPA.

Working Experience:
• 5+ years’ experience with GL closing activities including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, periodic accruals, and accounting for fixed assets.
• Prior experience working with Canada is preferred.
