The Training & Development Consultant designs, develops, and delivers MTAS training programs. This position designs and develops new training programs, revises existing programs, delivers training classes, and markets training services. This position continually looks for ways to distribute knowledge and improve skills for municipal staff and elected officials in Tennessee. This position is responsible for design, development, and delivery of in-person and virtual training, retreat facilitation, and conference presentations for MTAS customers. This position provides training services within its assigned territory as well as statewide within assigned program areas. Performs other special project work as assigned.

Training/Curriculum Design, Development, and Delivery: Conducts formal and informal needs assessment, consults with customers and subject matter experts to develop course content, and determines the most appropriate training delivery methods to serve appointed and elected municipal officials throughout the State of Tennessee. Creates training classes from conception by researching various resources and developing exercises, course content, PowerPoint presentations, and course materials. Includes development for classroom and virtual/online sessions. Extensive teaching of training classes.       

Training/Curriculum Review and Implementation: Ensures quality control of training programs, curricula, and material by implementing standard formats and periodic content reviews. Meets with MTAS subject matter experts to ensure standards are understood and met. Oversees assigned statewide training program(s), including scheduling, logistics, materials production, hosting, and other details necessary for successful delivery of assigned program(s). 

Administration and Professional Development: Includes participating in team meetings, agency meetings and retreats, special projects, and committees. Includes maintaining records of work activities within agency databases. Involves time spent to remain current in fields of expertise, including professional meetings, conferences, seminars, training classes, and professional reading. 

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, HR Development, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of four years of experience in adult education, education, training, or a related field is required. 
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of adult learning theory and principles; knowledge of instructional design theory, training methodologies, and effective training practices and techniques; knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.). Skill with training design, development, and delivery. The ability to:
  • Frequent travel, including occasional, overnight travel, is required. Work is both in the field as well as in the office, and as such, requires ability to frequently and independently schedule and update work activities.
  • Write clearly and concisely, 
  • Apply adult learning theory to training approach and delivery,
  • Apply effective training practices, techniques, and methodologies,
  • Apply instructional design theory to training design and development,
  • Speak effectively before groups,
  • Work effectively with colleagues, city officials and university staff, 
  • Independently plan, manage, schedule, and maintain steady work activity,
  • Effectively use MS Office applications,
  • Obtain professional certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Adult Education, HR Development, Organizational Development, MPA, or a related field. Professional training certifications.
  • Experience: Experience in an adult educational or governmental environment.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience with or ability to learn and use a learning management system. Experience with basic web content editing.


Work Location: Location: Nashville, TN. This position is hybrid office/remote.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $73,476.42 to $102,866.98
