Operational in Indonesia for more than 40 years, IOM Indonesia is one of the largest IOM missions in the world working on a wide range of activities in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, civil society, private sector actors, migrants and communities. IOM Indonesia is engaged in several thematic areas, including: Counter-Trafficking (CT), Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMSI), Disasters, Climate and Resilience (DCR), Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), Refugee Care, Migration Health, Migration Policy and Data Hub, and Resettlement and Voluntary Returns.
IOM Indonesia aims to ensure quality of care for refugees and asylum seekers referred to IOM by the Government of Indonesia according to applicable international humanitarian and human rights standards. The programme supports refugees through healthcare, education, basic needs, as well as to contribute to the increased protection of vulnerable subgroups, such victims of sexual and gender based violence, among others, through referral mechanisms involving the active participation of specialized state and non-state service providers. It also contributes to supporting them with the eventual sustainable pathways.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate (Refugee Care) and in close coordination with the Programme Associate (Refugee Care), the incumbent will be responsible for implementing educational activities for refugee children and adults within the Makassar Sub-Office.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1.Conduct regular English and Indonesian language classes for refugee children and adults.
2.Identify standard curricula for various educational activities and adapt them according to the capacity and learning needs of the refugee learners.
3.Develop lesson plans, prepare relevant teaching materials, and deliver structured lessons.
4.Assess students' language proficiency levels and monitor their academic progress throughout the learning period.
5.Support students in improving their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through individual and group activities.
6.Mark assignments, provide constructive feedback, assess examinations and homework, and issue student report cards at the end of each term.
7.Identify capable students and encourage them to volunteer as peer educators; provide guidance on teaching strategies, learning resources, and effective classroom techniques.
8.Organize class schedules, maintain student registration and attendance records, and submit monthly progress reports to IOM.
9.Attend regular coordination meetings and training sessions as scheduled by the organization.
10.Conduct school readiness and higher education preparation classes and provide corresponding evaluation reports.
11.Assist refugee children with school subjects, while identifying and addressing their individual learning needs.
12. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time, consistent with the role and responsibilities of the position.
EDUCATION
•University Degree in Language, Linguistics, Education or English with a teaching qualification/ certification, with two years of relevant work experience, preferably in teaching.
•Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with 4 (four) years of relevant work experience.
EXPERIENCE
•Proven capacity and experience in language teaching in a classroom setting and/or private tutoring
•At least four years of demonstrated experience in teaching the relevant subject matter (e.g., Indonesian, English, Computer Studies, Arabic, or other subjects depending on educational needs).
•Extensive experience in teaching both children and adults; prior experience working with refugees and conducting multi-grade teaching is highly desirable.
SKILLS
Proficient in computer applications: Ms. Office.
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
