Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Spring 2026 TDS Cell Therapy Development Drug Product Development (DPD) Co-Op, located in Spring House, PA.
Research & Development Co-Op Overview:
CAR-T therapies, a groundbreaking form of immunotherapy that reprogram a patient’s T-cells to target and destroy cancer cells, offer promising potential for the treatment of cancer. This co-op will focus on process and formulation development towards clinical testing and commercialization of these therapeutics. In this position, the candidate will receive hands-on experience in many aspects of formulation and process development for these types of therapies. Projects may be tailored to the candidate’s experience and interests.
Life As An R&D Co-Op:
The R&D Co-op program provides each student with real-life hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, networking opportunities, as well as the opportunity to meet people from various schools throughout the country. Each Co-op will be assigned to a single function with a specific project for the 6-month term.
The typical Co-op term is from Jan 2026– Jun 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
The TDS Cell Therapy Development DPD organization is seeking a candidate interested in autologous cell therapy late-phase development. In this role, the Co-Op will
- Focus on late-phase development of critical steps such as formulation, fill, and cryopreservation.
- Establish scale-down models and conduct cryopreservation studies to characterize effects on quality attributes and optimize process parameters.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical techniques.
- Actively participate in weekly meetings with internal and external collaborators.
- Participate in technical discussions on design of experiments to fill gaps in knowledge.
- Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines. Provide other project support as needed.
We are also seeking a candidate interested in CAR-T process development and automating data integration for key steps of the process. In this role, the Co-Op will.
- Receive hands-on experience in many aspects of formulation and process development for CAR-T therapies.
- Automate data integration for wash and formulation steps. The candidate will focus on translating manual data logs and analyses to automated integration with existing data lakes.
- Analyze and interpret experimental results using analytical and statistical techniques.
- Actively participate in weekly meetings with internal and external collaborators.
- Participate in technical discussions on design of experiments to fill gaps in knowledge.
- Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines.
- Provide other project support as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- Biology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and related majors are preferred.
- Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of a co-op assignment. Preferred candidate will be pursuing a PhD degree or equivalent. However, students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree will also be considered. For students pursuing their Bachelor's degree, Juniors or Seniors are preferred.
- Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
Experience And Skills:
Required:
- Candidate must have previous experience working in process development. Process development experience in cell therapy is preferred.
- Candidate must have previous experience with cell culture and analyzing data.
- Candidate with some experience with Python, R programs, or data lake integration is preferred but not required.
- Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., FI, H1-B status)
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills are preferred
- Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives while performing results
- Must be a self-starter work independently while supplying to the team goals
- Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired
Preferred:
- Students with basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution, and data analysis preferred.
