The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology & Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Charge Technologist in the Department of Hematology.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for day to day smooth running of the section assigned, administratively as well as technically according to laboratory policies and protocols. You will be responsible to:

  • Update section's polices/procedure manuals on yearly basis and / as and when required in consultation with section head & manager as applicable.
  • Handle incident and complaints of patients / physicians.
  • Update section indicators and maintain target goal.
  • Prepare presentation for departmental quality meeting.
  • Responsible to evaluate bench QC on daily and monthly basis according to CAP standards.
  • Initiate quality project and clinical audits for quality improvement
  • Perform validation studies of new and existing equipment’s.
  • Perform high complexity test.
  • Perform routine and STAT clinical laboratory tests or technical procedures and finalize reports according to laboratory protocols and authorize to reports of lab tests processed by self when required.
  • Participate in teaching / training of junior staff, student and trainees according to guidelines provided as and when required.
  • Organize and coordinate on a daily basis the administrative and technical activities of the assigned section according to laboratory procedures and policies for day to day smooth running of the section.
  • Compliance to laboratory protocol and policy guidelines, JCIA and CAP standards.
  • Handle staffing matters such as attendance, discipline, and counselling through random checks and as and when required to ensure that the laboratory and institutional policies are implemented regularly.
  • Effectively communication the critical results in timely manner and perform documentation as per protocol.
  

Requirements:

You Should Have:

  • BS /BSC in Biological Science (4 years Program), Masters (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience as a Senior Technologist at AKU or 10 years of relevant experience gained at a hospital or laboratory.
  • thorough knowledge of Laboratory testing procedures
  • knowledge of latest developments in Medical Technology field
  • good knowledge of employee relations techniques
